This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

How would a non offensive TTRPG look like?
« on: May 19, 2019, 12:30:36 PM »
Has anybody tried to make a #TTRPG that doesn't offend anybody by following all of the #SocJus directives? Lets see if we can list them all before even trying.

1.- You can't write any race/culture/sex/sexuality other than your own.
2.- Not including other cultures/races/etc is bigotry.
3.- Fictional races are bigotry.
Quote from: Rhedyn

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

All characters have to start with the same stats and all classes have to be equally as good in all situations.

Actually, while I don't think stats would be equal, you'd have "adversity" adjustments to make scores of the "disadvantaged" characters higher

3) is a thorny one, because some people identify (in real life) as fictional races. Or objects. Otherkin they are called. I'm not sure how seriously they are taken yet, but I'm sure they will be eventually (like how there are dozens of genders now)

The otherkin come from the same cesspool as the 70+ genders: Tumblr

I have no doubt they will be taken seriously by the usual suspects, two-spirited is already being added by some to the LGBTQWERTY

You mean totally 100% not offensive to anyone on earth?

Not going to happen. Ever. There are insane people out there who can and will be offended by your game even if all the characters were the exact same transparent cube. It does not matter what you do. If they want to be offended they will make up whole cloth how your transparent cube people really represent the oppressed native american plight and how you are pro genocide. You monster!

But there are a few fairly innoffensive RPGs out there. Ones about kids doing stuff, ones about just travelling around, ones about diplomacy and negotiation, and even one about kobolds eating babies... wait... what? :D

But it gets better. There will be people offended if your RPG has ANY random element in it. There will be some, including me, who might be offended if there was no random element in it. You monster!

Things I've seen on design fora...
A player solemnly swearing that they would never buy a game that had... leather in it. Because they are vegans. (and apparently can not separate reality from fantasy.)
A player despising Runequest because it has duck people in it. But not because it has duck people in it. But instead because how real ducks fuck...
Lost track of the morons despising D&D because "It has so many rules for combat and no rules for talking! Its all combat and killing and NOTHING ELSE EVERRRRRRRRR!"
"Chainmail bikinis" for fuck sake the number of morons screeching about this and getting so utterly fucking wrong EVERY FUCKING TIME.
And of course the 'euro gamers' AKA: bigots in disguise, who will spit on your game if it has the vile hated abomination of... DICE. You monster!
And so on.
Really. You can not win with these nuts.

Golden Rule no 1: if someone feels offended, that's his/her problem and can gtfo. And from this, by definition, no game is offensive.
Non-native English speaker - I apologize for any unclear phrasing.

No, I mean to the perpetually offended, I'm trying to get help in listing all of their insane and contradictory rules.

I know they will invent new ones just to be offended, I don't care about their offense. I just want the list to propagate it in the interwebs, and make it obvious they're crazy. I think this is a worthwhile effort and might help in getting people to stop listening to their Reeeeeeeeeeeing.

Agreed except with your conclusion, anything can and will be offensive, since offense is taken not given. Of course this doesn't change the fact we should just give them the finger and carry on.

Wouldn't that be offensive by being ableist? :)

:p Good point. I'm sure someone would eventually take umbrage with the "tree murder" aspect, too.

Probably easier to list what these nuts havent been offended by. And that list is rapidly shrinking towards the single digits.

Got dragons in your game? Then you are promoting BEASTIALITY!

Some lunatic declaring playing Bunnies & Burrows and Its a (Prairie) Dogs Life, etc is a 'furry' game . Whats next? Also promotes BEASTIALITY!

Orcs... really... orcs...  Followed by drow! These two are perfect litmus tests to tell if someone is insane or not.

and on and on.

And heres the really insane thing. If you make such a list. Some fruitcake will read it... and believe one or more points on the list as TRUTH!

only accelerationist tactic I agree with is driving them to expose their insanity to the masses. I can't think a better way to turn the majority of the people from spectators into opponents of the crazies. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

I don't know what it would be about, but it would make My Little Pony Tails of Equestria look like Kult by comparison.
