This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anyone know of a free online software for generating hexcrawl wilderness maps. Preferably one that also works on mac and you can edit after the initial generation. Looking for something quick and easy, maps don't need to be beautiful, just functional.

How about this one?

I just found it the other day and looks pretty neat.

I really like the ones at Wizardawn and the Isomage's House, both of which have been linked already.  Those two sites also have a lot of other really good automated random generators, for names and the like. The Holmesian and Hyborian name generators and the Wizard spell generator on Wizardawn are really cool. The Greek island generator on the Isomage's House is something I always thought would be useful too, possibly in connection with the Lamentations of the flame Princess supplement "The Isle of the Unknown".

Yes it is in the free mode you click on generate and it creates a filled in map.

Ah hah! I see. And being too lazy to bother downloading it myself, just how "random" does it end up being? As a fairly expert mapmaker (at least I surely think you are), do you feel that the maps have some kind of coherency in terms of terrain, or does it appear to be totally randomly generated with no consideration as to surrounding terrain types?
