This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Have seen this box set around for a little bit.  Have no experience with the Lone Wolf books and was just wondering how the game is, the mechanics, playing it, ect.  Thanks.

Heres what I saw.

The starter version's rules are much like the original gamebooks.  Two stats some Kai disciplines. Limited pack space. Theres even one of those number generators on the inside of the box cover. The advanced version adds skills and advanced disciplines and some situational rules that a GM will need to know. Some of that is presented as optional.

Its got a similar feel to the Fighting Fantasy RPG.

Well, so far I have played in one session and it's really fun. Mechanics are fairly simple. Basic rules are apparently very similar to the choose-your-own-adventure game books, the advanced rules add just a little more meat. The box set is a nicely produced and very complete game for a good price. If you're interested in Lone Wolf and Magnamund just pick it up, especially if you're looking for a game to introduce new people to the hobby.
