This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

First exposure to RPGs was probably around the mid 70s. Either Holms Basic or AD&D.

Given release dates, had to be late 70s.

I was 10/11 - 1983, Warlock of Firetop Mountain & Fighting Fantasy, leading me to 1e AD&D.

I was 8 or 9, and started playing RPGs with the Holmes Basic set. (It was actually my father's.)

I was 18 my freshman year of college when I first started playing D&D (3.5 was my first edition & RPG), but I'd been interested in doing so for some time.

Plus, I'd already played Warhammer 40k for 3-4 years, so it wasn't a huge leap in terms of the rules other than softening them for the RP side of things. I was actually that rare breed of TTRPG player who read all of the rules before playing (and this was 3.5's crunch) and actually helped the DM with a few edge case calls.

I have no idea. At the time I did not know there were effectively now 2 or 2.5 versions of D&D out. And it did not really click till the 80s when BX came out.

My mom bought me the red box set from the Sears Christmas Catalog in 1983.

So I've been playing RPG's for 37 years!  Thanks mom!
Common sense isn't common; if it were, everyone would have it.

Ghostmaker

I think I started around 1986-1987. I date it from when I first got a copy of Dragon magazine (issue #126, Oct. 1987). I would've been 12 then, and started with BECMI (granted, we didn't have BECMI, just Basic and Expert).

Good times.

Wicked Woodpecker of West

I was around 20. 2nd years of Uni I think. 2006-2008 something like that.

I was 12 and at a Boy Scout camp out. I was watching the game and then one of the older boys said, "Hey, let Jeff play the henchman."
"Meh."

I started when I was 12.  I'm 50 now.  D&D Red box Basic.  A world of possibilities opened up when we finally got enough money to get the Blue Expert set.

I want to introduce my kids, ages 8 & 10 Xmas break to B/X.

1992 must have been.  Started with Rifts.  Some kid did a show and tell type presentation and I was hooked.  6th grade.

Abraxus

I was 13 when I started man I feel old. First with the Red Boxed set then 1E D&D then Robotech and the rest they say is history.

I started in the spring of '82... can't remember if it was before or after my 14th birthday. A friend introduced me to the Moldvay/Cook B/X sets... which you could get at Wal-Mart then before the Fundies started raising hell. Quickly transitioned to AD&D over the next year or so. He and I were the only real gamers in our little one-horse Southern town, and our play style reflects on how I play today.

Played some 2E in college and the Navy... didn't make much noise with me because it was just watered down 1E.

Got out and went back to college and fell into 3E, which I wanted to like, but our DM sucked balls and encouraged others to do so too.

Never touched 4E other than reading the pdfs. Then I washed my hands afterward.

5E? Meh. I have the core books. It looks interesting, and maybe one day I'll give it a shot at my FLGS, but I'm in no hurry.
