This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

how old were you when you started ?

15, Got Tactics II from Avalon Hill as a gift.  But, the big hit that year with the family was Speed Circuit.
16, My brother has seen D&D being played in the school library, described it, and we wrote our own d66 based dungeon crawler game.  Later that summer, we got the Holmes edition of D&D Basic.  So yes, I was a RPG game designer before I was a D&D player.  :-)

When I was about ten, in 97, my mother signed me up for D&D camp. I knew nothing about it but was immediately hooked and went every summer until I worked there as a teen.

Old School? Back in my day we just called it "School."

Asked for and got the Blue Box Expert set for Christmas, 1980, age 13.  Sounded interesting, and I figured with cash tight, why start with Basic when you can go straight to Expert, right?  That's what happens when your only exposure to the game is a blurb in the Sears catalog.  :D

Fortunately, a relative had played before and ran a quick sample game.  I was hooked.  Also fortunately, birthday was soon after.  So got the Red Box Basic for that and ran my first game a month later. Been the GM ever since.

I started playing when I was 11 years old back 78'.

I started in late 1974 with Original D&D.

Boardgames (first one was AH's Rise and Fall of the Third Reich) when I was ~14. RPGs (started with Holmes Blue Box) when I was ~15.

I was 11 or 12 Summer of 85 with the Red Box. The D&D Cartoon and Dragons of Autumn Twilight were the gateway drug ;D. Quickly found a group playing AD&D that fall. Been playing D&D ever since, skipped 4th for Pathfinder. Then back to 5e, but I'm pretty much done with 5e at this point, only playing due to ease of finding a group. Also started up a 2nd edition game with my old group this summer...its been a blast so far. I also play board wargames which I got into in High School, primarily ASL.
