This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

How old are people here?

Quote from: Vic99;745033I'd be interested to see how many people stick with gaming even though life gets more complicated as the years go by and you really have to prioritize what's important.  At age 20, I didn't think I'd still be doing this at age 43, but I'm glad that I can make it work for a few hours once a week (plus prep time if it's my turn to run a campaign).

I've been doing it for nearly two decades and I can't imagine what it would take to dislodge it from my top 5 hobbies list. Of course that's easy to say since I'm childfree by choice.

Ooh, secondary thread question! - For those of you who have had children, was it as disruptive to RPGs as generally described?

For an answer, my son has been my co-writer/designer for ten years, since he was 17.

Yeah, you are definitely right about that. I am sure most of my angst about the hobby is because with adult schedules what they are, haven't been able to get a group together for quite a while. C'est la vie.

42. I know the answer to everything....at least for a few months. ;)
Running: HarnMaster, and prepping for Werewolf 5.

Kids disruptive; yes and no.

Just life and responsibilities generally have made it a struggle to keep any regular game going into our 4th decade gaming - tends to be more monthly these days.

On the other hand I keep busy running games for my sons and their cousins and friends. They have tried over a dozen different games to date from Castles & Crusades and Monsters & Magic to Elric and Openquest with diversions into Traveller, Savage Worlds, Marvel Faserip, d20 Star Wars, Wushu and others. They're sold.

Fuck. Yeah. Right with a six month old baby and a two year old my roleplaying time is close to nothing. Within the next year or so I hope to get a by-weekly campaign rolling, but right now, no way.
Running: Call of Cthulhu
Playing: Mainly boardgames

Only when my daughter began to pick up boyfriends through the games I ran. In the early years, daughter took precedence over gaming, always.

You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

Nah, I'm 54, not me.
This was a cool site, until it became an echo chamber for whiners screeching about how the "Evul SJWs are TAKING OVAH!!!" every time any RPG book included a non-"traditional" NPC or concept, or their MAGA peeners got in a twist. You're in luck, drama queens: the Taliban is hiring.

Don't tell anyone, but you can see how everyone answered...

I only turned 50 last year, so I'm still in the age group one step below you. For now.

Damn, you people are old.

Really wondering about the Pundit's age. Dude showed me around his house but couldn't tell me how old he is.

BarefootGaijin

Getting old is mandatory, growing up is optional.

39 going on 15, via 8 years old.

8 years old is the best. Ever remember being 8? Happy days! No stresses, no jobs or worries (unless you came from a destitute background, YMMV obviously).
I play these games to be entertained... I don't want to see games about rape, sodomy and drug addiction... I can get all that at home.
