For the past several months I've been running a campaign for my friends' kids... 9 and 11.
Last week they finally located and defeated the hideously mutated bandit king... recovered his hoard of loot... and, except for a few loose ends, are about ready to head back to base. No loss of life but one of them is gonna need serious doctoring.
It's been great fun.

So, with that accomplished, tonight I passed off the GM baton to the 11yr old and he ran his first game ever with his brother and I as players... and it went swimmingly!
Usually he's kind of a shy kid but I was surprised at how well he managed our unruly chaos with firm rulings and some creative bargaining. The setting is something he's been working on for a while, low magic - late medieval Europe in flavor.

He set us up with a small town, some flavorful townie NPCs, some bounty posters posted in the public square... and let us go.
Our PCs (my ratcatcher/trash picker and his brother's game warden) made some inquiries to the local sheriff (who was sporting a brand new peg leg) and he gave us a few leads.
We gathered up whatever weapons we could get our hands on (my PC 'borrowed' an assortment of kitchen knives) and, after some arguing, we decided to investigate the supposedly haunted caves East of town where some sort of giant wolf-thing had last been seen (also where the sheriff's last saw his missing leg).
We left just before sunrise to beat the likely competition we'd face for the bounty on the monster and the sheriff's favor. My fellow (and a couple of fellow lowlifes) trotting behind the game warden's horse.
On the road we ran into a bandit (at least the warden insisted it was a bandit after he'd killed the man with a well-placed arrow), and hid in the woods from some local militia whose leader the warden appears to have issues with.
Eventually, after some more arguing, we got back on the road and continued.

The guys' bedtime hit just as we reached the hills where the cave is supposed to be and we'd found some ominous looking tracks and the carcass of a ravaged deer.

I'm leaving out loads of details but great stuff so far and we're all stoked for next week's continuation under our freshly minted GM.

Awsome!  Passing the baton, as it were. :)

Excellent job Sim! I'm preparing to do the same with my step kids, 7 and 9. Any advice for running a game for the young'uns? Haven't decided on the game for sure yet, but have the Fantasy Adventures for Kids game, Fairy's Tale, Woodland Warriors, and many rules light games (Microlight20, Mini d6, etc...).
