Post by: Zachary The First on May 10, 2008, 10:03:20 AM
This (http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=55102) just arrived at my house, for the ENnies.

QuoteBackground Noise
Breathe life into your character
Another product in our line of generic supplements, this one allows you to randomly generate a background for any fantasy character. By walking through a series of tables, you will determine:
 • Where the character grew up
 • Who he lived with
 • What his parents did
 • How many siblings he had
 • Any family legacy
 • Events in the character's childhood
 • Events in the character's adult life
 • The most significant personality traits of the character
 • and much much more...
With 40 tables and hundreds of options, there are millions of possible combinations, making sure that no two character's backgrounds are exactly alike.
So add some Background Noise to your character, he'll thank you for it.

Lot of cool tables in it.  I do love random tables for just about any step of chargen.  I'm not saying all the time, but they're fun to have, IMO.  Neat product.

It looks heavily influenced by Paul Jaquays' Central Casting - Heroes of Legend but that is long out of print and fair game for emulation. I compared a couple of tables in the preview to tables from Central Casting and some entries are damn close but the new book might just skirt away from outright plagiarism.

I've never had a copy of Central Casting.  Close, is it?  Wherever the original, its the sort of supplement I like.

Poopsticks, I was thinking of going into some Central Casting inspired background generation books, but I was going to be a bit more up front about it. Ah well, I guess there's room for several spins on the same sort of thing.

There's different Central Casting books for different eras. They are almost impossible to find, but sometimes appear on ebay. I was told by the author that he's working a new edition, but who knows when it will be completed.
