This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A Rifts question

I just got Rifts and the Atlantis book for cheap and I'm looking for some advice.

Here is the task, Rifts fans:  Keeping in mind that I own a huge chunk of TMNT, Ninjas & Superspies, Mystic China, and Heroes Unlimited, recommend ONE additional Palladium book to help make my Rifts experience more awesome.  I'm not interested in collecting the line, but I could maybe pick up another book.

*Thinks really freakin' hard*

That is a toughie. I mean you can grab Conversion Book one and that will help knit all of your other Palladium stuff to RIFTS. There's the Mercenaries Handbook, which is a good guns, toys, and classbook that fits well with the power level of the core rules. Vampire Kingdoms is just a wicked fun setting.

I can't clearly choose just one (I'm kinda leaning towards Mercs over Vamps) but those three should be contenders.
Running: Dogs of WAR - Beer & Pretzels & Bullets
Planning to Run: Godbound or Stars Without Number
Playing: Star Wars D20 Rev.

A lack of moderation doesn\'t mean saying every asshole thing that pops into your head.

Abyssal Maw

Rifts Undersea.

You can play a dolphin!
Download Secret Santicore! (10MB). I painted the cover :)

Gabriel

Triax and the NGR
or
Robotech II: The Sentinels.

Sosthenes

Rifts Japan.

TMNT meets Ninjas & Superspies meets Rifts Ninjas would be a great campaign.

RPGPundit

Atlantis is pretty well the best sourcebook for Rifts.  Aside from that one, Triax is pretty cool.

Mercenaries or World Book 5: Triax and the NGR, IMO. Best of the 'tech' sourcebooks, IMO, while Atlantis' bulk lies well on the 'magic' side.
Heroism is no more than a chapter in a tale of submission.

J Arcane

While a lot of folks seem to hate it for the power level aspect, Phase World really does have some neat stuff in it, and it also gives some direct material branching to Atlantis, in that it covers the universe the Splugorth come from.

Plus it has the random alien generation tables.

I still think Wormwood is vaguely nifty too, but it really should've been a stand alone game as it doesn't really mesh with anything else in Palladiumland.

Settembrini

Aftermath

It gives you the best overview of Rifts Earth, including a metric buttload of adventure ideas.

EDIT:

What do you plan on doing? Cause if you already know you want a traditional NorthAmerican Campaign, Mercenaries is the way to go.

Quote from: SettembriniWhat do you plan on doing?

If I were to run a Rifts campaign, it would be a group of wandering weirdoes getting into trouble all over Rifts Earth, Thundarr the Barbarian style, with  Freak of the Week encounters and a handful of recurring villains.

Then pick up Aftermath, accept no substitute. It´s filled with a concise world description and adventure ideas galore-for a pro like you a worthy substitute for all world books. Put the GMs companion on top and you even have all the kewl gear in one place.

If you you need a hand with streamlining the rules a bit without changing their nature, just ask.
