HERO Games, particularly Champions

So...I know there are some players out there...relate some of your best stories, games or ideas.

One that I've been kicking around is a group called the Gatecrashers based somewhat on the Wrecking Crew from Marvel using some of the old Enemies such as PileDriver and Sledge.  I was throwing in Bulldozer and reworking and modelling him off of an old poster many may recall, Snoweel.

About 17 years ago I ran a Champions game that had a violent dark humor theme. One of the recurring villains was Dr. Pnuematic, whose major schtick was an autofire HTH killing attack. Oh the glorious splattering...:D

In the same campaign I freaked my players out throwing a werewolf at them. It was heading towards a TPK until somebody grabbed the silver cutlery out of the kitchen. :)

When I think of Champions the first thing that comes to mind is character played by a friend. Mr. Abbey was a British gentleman who had a mystical mishap and his body became nearly invulnerable. He was a brick, but in a colorful, ruffled suit.

We were fighting atop a 40-story high rise, and Mr. Abbey took enough knockback to go over the edge. He fell to the street, dusted himself off, and had to take the elevator to the roof to rejoin the fight.

Good times. I'm hoping to make new superhero memories with my kids, about to start a Mutants and Masterminds game with them.

I've only payed Champions once although there is a whole shelf of stuff for it in my house. I played a Blaster called Fussion, with nuclear based powers including a blast (obviously), damage shield and that was about it. With a bit of XP I bought Super Leap, directing his blast at the floor. I intended to change it to flight later on, as he gained more control of his powers.

We were ment to be novice heros so the GM allowed shifting of point like that.

My favorite character was named Trinity--a radioactive version of the human torch whose main problem was that he couldn't turn himself off, meaning that he would severely injure virtually any non-damage resistant human he touched. He had some--shall we say--issues. I always went for the truly flawed heroes, much to my GM's chagrin.

I really enjoyed that system. Perhaps I'll try to pick it up again.

Jangling Jack

One of my favorites was a character called Sleep.
Due to an 'accident' he was left with a END draining field that went out 10 feet around him that he couldn't turn off. The character was a child (loosely based on a character from Dark City) and had problems dealing with people since no one could come near him without falling asleep.

The END drain was fairly large so most normal people went to sleep very quickly. Which was a shame when he put his parents into a coma without realizing it.

His best friend ended up being a guy who wasn't living or dead...

One of my favorite "oops" in a champions game was a fight that the bad guy tricked the local official hero group (us) and a powered vigilante group into having.

In the fight, one of our members went for their 10 1/2 dice high-power attack on one of the vigilantes, knowing that the target was tough to take down. Based on the evidence we'd had of them, average damage from such an attack would put the the character within a few points of running out of stun damage, enoguh to make them back off, or reconsider the fight.

Well, that was the plan.

out of a possible 63 points, the attack inflicted 59!!!! That's seven 6s, two 5s, a 4, and a 6 on the half-die, for 18 Body, PLUS double digit stun negatives getting applied. OUCH... alas poor vigilante, and any chance of the two groups working together.
