This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

New RPG - Zombiepocalypse

For more than a decade, my gaming group and I have gathered together on (or around) Halloween and celebrated the day of our national fascination with the occult with a homebrew role-playing game that we imaginatively called "that zombie game". Separate from our usual campaign, it was a chance for us to go wild and do things no normal player would ever do with a PC they have lovingly nurtured through 12 levels of dungeon-crawling, like recklessly throwing ourselves off bridges, stupidly charging at a herd of undead to take them on single-handedly, or cooking off a grenade in a heroic (and futile) attempt to save the rest of the party.

A few years ago, I codified the rules of this game and dubbed it... Zombiepocalypse! Over the years, I've rewritten the rules, turning it from some strange AD&D hybrid into its own beast, using an entirely original d6 game-system. Fast paced and simple to learn, it's intended to be more akin to video-games (like Left4Dead), where death is cheap but loss of a character (or entire party) is fairly inconsequential; creating a new character takes minutes (if that long) and even a TPK isn't more than a brief stumbling block for players or GM.

Since 2010, when I first wrote down the rules, I've introduced the game to a few other people outside my main gaming group, and the general opinion was favorable. It's not a game intended as a replacement for a "real" role-playing game; it's better suited for quick one-shot pick-up games. So far, I know of four different gaming groups who've enjoyed Zombiepocalypse, but I've always believed that it could have wider appeal.

So... Hello wider appeal!

If you are interested in taking a look, I've created an (admittedly unimpressive) website where you can read the core rules. Right now it's only available in HTML (ultimately, I hope to make it available as a downloadable PDF and maybe even a hard-copy version one day). It's still under development (for instance, the entirety of the Game Master's Guide has yet to be written) but enough of the rules are there to create a character and run a game. I'd be interested in any comments people have about the game.

And maybe one day, when I have it honed to perfection, Spoony might look at it and record a scathing Counter Monkey video detailing all its flaws. /squee!/

Oh... almost forgot the link.
