This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Help? 4th/ed D&D assistance needed.

Could someone help me convert or "level-up" my D&D 4/e character from 1st to 2nd level ??

I played in a game session last night and two of the players told me my numbers were too low. Aparently all of our characters had enough experience points to "level up" (me included) but I didn't change my stats and abilities, powers and stuff. I was still using my 1st level character sheet & numbers from our first few game sessions.

Guess thats what I get for being a GURPS GM for more than 10 years - I completely forgot that everyone knows the habits of the much more popular game system better than I do.

My character is a Dragonborn Paladin named Kriv - but the adventuring party knows him as " Flint " .

Can you use WotC's character builder to upgrade your current character?

At second level you gain 1 utility power and 1 feat.

But I think what your players are talking about is that everything you do gets a bonus of 1/2 your level (rounded down).  So you also add a +1 to everything now.
Now Prepping: One-shot adventures for Coriolis, RuneQuest (classic), Numenera, 7th Sea 2nd edition, and Adventures in Middle-Earth.

Recently Ended: Palladium Fantasy - Warlords of the Wastelands: A fantasy campaign beginning in the Baalgor Wastelands, where characters emerge from the oppressive kingdom of the giants. Read about it here.

The way attacks, defenses, and skill checks works is it's half your level, round down.

So going to an even numbered level means you get +1 to all attacks, defenses, and skill checks.

Add 6 hit points for a paladin.

Choose a utility power and a feat. I would suggest Dragonborn Frenzy if you haven't taken it yet.

FEAT: Dragonborn Frenzy
Heroic Tier
Prerequisite: Dragonborn
Benefit: While you are bloodied, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls.

And a pretty good utility power for roleplaying is Astral Speech:

UTILITY: Astral Speech
"You speak with such compelling conviction that others find it difficult to refute your beliefs and claims."
Paladin, Utility, 2 Daily, Divine
Minor Action, Personal
Effect: You gain a +4 power bonus to Diplomacy checks until the end of the encounter.

I do not have that computer program. As I am likely to remain 'just a player' of D&D and not a DM - doubt I'll buy it.

Kind of like when I run GURPS , I have a copy of the GCA  but there really isn't a reason my players need to have a copy.

Would it be interesting for anyone if I posted my 1st level version of my character?

I would like it. :) But I'm biased. I will post my rogue here as well, though.

1) Dude, buy the 4e PHB.  Steve Jackson will certainly forgive you IF you buy the next Munchkin supplement as atonement.   Since players instantly know what their magic items do, the PHB is doubly useful.   Sure, all the other special books will be nice, but you can have a cool Paladin for 30 levels just with the PHB.

2) Decide on a build based on your stats.   Paladins do either STR or CHA and depending on what you have stat-wise, you will be picking your powers.   I hope that you have an 18 in one of those two.   4e is all about your prime stat.

3) I would agree with AM on Dragonborn Fury...IF you are bloodied regularly in combat.   Also, if your party does not have a Cleric or Warlord and healing is a problem for your crew, you might want to look into Multiclass Cleric or Warlord.   Multiclass is great if the party is missing one of the core roles.

4) Don't fret over spending a feat on something non-combat.   If your DM likes lots of skill challenges, it pays to branch out in some skill areas that may be missing in the party.

This makes no sense on so many levels.

1. It's for players
2. It's FREE up to third level

This came from the summary page on the builder. I like how compact 4E characters look...
