While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Have Goblins Become Short Stack Kim Kardashian Strumpets?
« on: October 19, 2021, 03:54:18 PM »
Greetings!

I have in recent months purchased some new miniatures for my miniature collection for gaming. In looking through miniature company sites, 3D Printers, and so on, I have noticed that there are many Goblin miniatures that certainly qualify as being alluring and provocative. I have noticed a similar trend in various gaming-related art work. Then, I recently watched a video on Neckbeardia where they talked about all of these sexy Goblins and people wanting to have sex with hot Goblins.

Wow. So, when did green-skinned Goblins become short-stack Kim Kardashian strumpets?

The forgotten realms, pathfinder, and a bunch of other things, have just become a big furry convention where lots of people don't want to play humans and just use different races/species as player characters to show how "quirky and unique" they are while yiffing all over your furniture.

I'm pretty relaxed as a DM, but that's gonna be a Nope.
Rule 1: No 'sex stuff" when I'm running a PG-13 table with my kids present.
Rule 2: But assuming an all-adults table, Goblins are ugly, stinky, dumb, malicious, dirty, garbage-dwelling vermin. If you wanna bang one, then A; There's something wrong with you and B; Let's talk about Con checks, diseases and parasitic infections. See pages 13-14of the 1e DMG and increase the base chances.

Bolding mine.

This is weird to me because I remember when Pathfinder did their first Adventure Path, goblins were remade from basic canon fodder into these scary little malicious prankster shits straight out of the Gremlins movies. I spent some good times terrorizing Players with them.

Mostly. What was your deity* again? They might let that defense drop if the act offends them, or they find the natural consequence amusing.  ;)

Good points, Jeff! Interestingly, both the seemingly more traditional depiction of Goblins being hordes of evil foot soldiers and minions--and Pathfinder's revamped depiction of Goblins being innovative, prankster-like terrorists flavoured from Gremlins movies--both depictions I think have fairly strong roots in historical mythology. They are related depictions, while still being distinctly different. I like it! ;D

Yeah, DM Curt! ;D Good stuff! I enjoy different angles on depicting Goblins--I think there's some definite room for good variations there--but the whole short stack Kim Kardashian strumpet thingy has me really scratching my head. "WTF?" *laughing*

Apparently, sexy Goblins--whether buffed, jacked male Goblins, or Kim Kardashian-like female Goblins--seem to have become great sex symbols and sexualized features for many new gamers, all eager to bang sexy Goblins!

*Laughing* Yiffing on your furniture! Yeah, Banjo, I suspect you are quite right. Some kind of "Furry" influence for sure! I've seen myself in public gaming groups this kind of driven obsession with playing the weirdest, "edgiest" characters and races available. Whoring vampires, half demons, big-titted cat girls, Goblins,--anything but Humans. Even Elves have seem to become discarded. Halflings and Gnomes are also much reduced, as well as Dwarves.

Oh, and it isn't just the guys wanting to play perverted, weird freaks, either. The women *lead* the way! They almost always want to not just play some weird, freak race, but they of course load the character up with as much depravity and debauchery as the DM allows. Yeah, the women do this, whether they are 18 or 50.

Furry Conventions indeed!

Goblins can vary a lot in stories. This is one Goblin King, for example:

I remember a friend ran a Labyrinth-inspired adventure many years ago.

Dont have to be a Goblin to be Goblin King.

Goblins are well known to be equal opportunity Monarchists.

Short-stack Kim Kardashian strumpets???  That's hilarious. What's next for Wokehaven, I wonder?

This one isn't even something you can lay at the feet of the Woke crowd. (Not that I doubt the ability of many posters here to do so anyway.) As far as I know the "Sexy Female Goblin" idea comes from D&D-fetish sex manga that were (of course) created in Japan. Monster Girl Encyclopedia and the many, many works it inspired.

I've been aware of it for a while, but... It was only recently that I had to do a double-take on realising that this depiction of goblins had apparently gone mainstream.

It's not like this is anything new. Tolkein-style Dwarves shouldn't be a thing, he just invented them to clean up the legends. The Dwarves as depicted in Norse/Germanic myths got split into two races of Dwarves and Goblins, one of which got all the good aspects of the originals and the other getting all the unpleasant features. Bizarre as it sounds to say it the Harry Potter version of goblins is actually more accurate to myth than Tolkein.
