This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

For fans of Shadowrun and Savage Worlds...

This is not Savage Worlds, but definitely Shadowrun inspired: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lowfantasygaming/lowlife-2090

Bummer that I missed that KS! Looks good.

Anybody know when it's going public? Hopefully with POD!

Interface Zero has always had a pretty consistent political slant.  The primary Big Bad in the setting were the North American Coalition: a state run by the worst elements of the Religious Right.  IZ 2.0 was pretty good, however about avoiding coming across as SJW'y and keeping the values of the setting humanist.  Making the bad guys Bible-thumping authoritarian Puritans was a great creative decision, I think.  Most of the gamers I I know hate Fundies almost as much as SJWs.  I in particular have bitter memories of the Satanic Panic.  I lost hundreds of dollars and hundreds of hours of paint-work worth of Warhammer figures to that particular episode.

I quite liked that its one of the few RPG Cyberpunk settings to integrate elements from Blade Runner by having Replicants as a player race.  Again, Replicants are slaves, and slavery being pretty fucking evil is something I think most people can agree on.

Same with Psychics aka Zeeks.  I with more settings with magic/supers had "You have to hide your powers because most people hate and fear you" as a limiting factor.

However, in this day and age it might be too close to reality for a lot of people and I can respect that.

Interface Zero 3.0 however is shaping up to be a total dumpster fire.  It's a story very much in the vein of Secret Empire or the Star Wars Sequel trilogy: it's the author having an extended temper tantrum over 2016, but coming out 5 years too late.  Basically the NAC conquered the rest of the Balkanized American states, so the PCs are "le Resistance" and must "bash the fash" blah blah you get the idea.

It's honestly kind of pathetic and it's already going to be dated before it even comes out.  Time will tell if David Jarvis goes back to the drawing board like he should, but I don't think so. The release is already 3 years delayed, and Jarvis' track record is not good.  He embraced BLM then when faced with EPIC blowback walked back his stance.

Fortunately, when I requested my money back he refunded my Kickstarter contribution without a complaint so that was good.

Overall, I'd recommend sticking to IZ 2.0 or just avoiding it entirely.

To get back on topic, I do like the look of Sprawlrunners.  I'll probably check it out.

Yeah I was all in on IFZ3.0... then it went into SJW hell... and I pulled out my money.

I agree that most American's generally dislike fundamentalism, because fundamentalism regardless of its angle tends to be so narrow in conception and understanding it goes against the entire concept of what America stands for.

Social Justice *is* the new fundamentalism.

I never bought into the narratives of IFZ2.0 but there is plenty to dig into that's of interest. The race choices, the Zeek issue, the conception of the Net and how players can be "netrunners" and still be active in the party, among other things was well done.

But yeah... the new iteration? Blergh.
