I wonder what this means for Palladium and their expiring Robotech license?

Palladium's license expired two years ago iirc. The RPG licensing went on to Battlefield Press and the first book is out now in PDF and POD:

I'd say unless something changes we wont see paladims stuff come back in to print and the only way we would see new copys will involve pickles and really bad eggs.

It is best they lost the license As PB was really badly mismanaging it imo. As well their rules never felt anything like what one saw in the anime on TV. They had a chance to fix that in second edition instead doubling down with Kevin increasing MDC and the damage values of weapon still remaining inferior.

Now for new anime with Harmony Gold..yeah not happy with that as they did a worse job than PB with the Robotech IP.

from what I understand the licencing agreement for Macross only covers the initial generation. Macross 7, Delta, and what not are not covered, and are up for grabs for other agencies

I'll care when they make a Macross supplement for Mekton.

Harmony Gold getting the license back is a really bad thing. That means probably decades more of Macross being locked out of the US and yet more gawd aweful fake Robotech cartoons from them.

As a Robotech fan who couldn't care less about Macross, this news makes me happy.

Probably not.  Harmony Gold and Titan Comics rebooted Robotech in comic book form last year.

Not Really I'm surprised you don't know but the origenal contract was so baddy written that it is actively used to teach lawyers how not to write a contract. To explain further the contract is flawed on a fundamental level hence HG uses these flaws to claim that they own the entirety of the macross franchise out side of japan to the point that they ran around the civilized world and trademarked macross deliberately to prevent other companys from licensing the related media.  
The only related thing to the origenal macross we got a legal release of was macross plus mostly because manga entertainment (a literal titan in the anime world they have a hand in every thing) knew HG was full of shit and licensed it any way. Then harmony gold sued and in the law suit that fallowed harmony gold got rightly kicked in the nuts and told specifically they didn't own macross plus. Unfortunately the ruling as it was written only applied to macross plus and didn't apply to any of the other related media.
Because of this harmony gold actively copy write trolls any thing with even the vaguest connections to macross and even though in an actual lawsuit they would probably loose on there claims no one is willing to blow the cash so nothing changes.

This has even extended to things out side of anime and movies we never got a few super robot wars games because of there shit.
the funnest part of all this that harmony gold going down would probably be the best thing that could happen to robotech its just big enough that some one would buy it and actually do something with it worth watching.

I all ready did the entire western anime market was made by the great god leg boot no matter how long we go there will always be some thing that leg boot will use to gain power harmony gold and aniplex are a great source of its power.

Sadly this is not new. Mego licensed the Micro-Man line from Takara and then spent decades blockading Takara long long long after Mego was dead. While at the same time bootlegging the toys with a false front secondary business after Mego folded. There are probably a couple of other cases like that.
