This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

QuoteThe most startling news out of the keynote was the stopgap that will keep gamers happy (and buying stuff) through 2013: Wizards plans to release every single D&D product from the game's historied past in digital form. Every edition, every sourcebook, every adventure. This is surprising not only because it's a very ambitious undertaking, but because Wizards shut down all ebooks three years ago. That's right: official, legal digital versions of D&D books have not existed since early 2009. This is quite a turnaround.

Now they're putting out something I would buy!
Jesus Fucking Christ, is this guy honestly that goddamned stupid? He can\'t understand the plot of a Star Wars film? We\'re not talking about "Rashomon" here, for fuck\'s sake. The plot is as linear as they come. If anything, the film tries too hard to fill in all the gaps. This guy must be a flaming retard.  --Mike Wong on Red Letter Moron\'s review of The Phantom Menace

Not news.

Possibly not pdfs.

Maybe subsciption based.

Waiting and seeing.

As an Old Fogie myself, I agree that it will be good to have 4e books finally in electronic format.

But no Boot Hill, Gamma World, Top Secret, Dawn Patrol, Gangbusters, or Starfrontiers...

Color me unimpressed.

I would not be surprised those other lines come out too. If they own the material, there is no good reason to not add everything TSR to the ebook pile.

I guess the anti-PDF guy got fired and a pro-PDF guy got promoted. Or the CEO just learned the concept of "long tail" in a Six Sigma Black Belt Ultra weekend seminar and now demands that all departments jump on this long tail bandwagon thingie.

Haha, well played, sir, well played.

I will only get excited and start setting aside cash if there is a POD part of this.

I want modules I can touch and feel. I want to stand the cover with the map up behind my DM screen and scribble notes in the margins. I want the cheetos stains on page 8 to be a reminder of how awesome a particular night of gaming was.

Most importantly, I don't want to fucking rent it.
Quote from: JonWakeGamers, as a whole, are much like primitive cavemen when confronted with a new game. Rather than \'oh, neat, what\'s this do?\', the reaction is to decide if it\'s a sex hole, then hit it with a rock.

Quote from: Old Geezer;724252At some point it seems like D&D is going to disappear up its own ass.

While I feel for you (and me) on everything else Star Frontiers is available for free online in remastered format (and yes legitimately.)

So far I don't believe they've said anything about pdfs at all. They may have a subscription ebook model instead.

If they release the pdfs again, they can have some of my money. If they try to bilk me for a monthly fee, they can fuck off.

Exactly. I'll buy PDFs, assuming they are reasonable priced, printable and copy/paste enabled. I will not do a monthly fee for access -- at least not for the type of access they used on DDI.

Star Frontiers is free and legal for the taking.

I still want to flesh out the rest of my SAGA library of physical books. But nothing I want nor need in the electronic versions. I have all the other TSR and WotC books I want already.
