I love my Game Group

I love my game group.   They are just an excellent group of gamers.

So last night was session 2 of our D&D 5th edition game.  We finished the Sinister Secrets of Saltmarsh adventure, and everyone leveled up to Level 2.  They didn't do what they needed to do to trigger the next adventure as gamers often do but that's fine, I will be prepared for next week if they don't get back on track.

I am the DM, and I am running Ghosts of Saltmarsh just to get everyone together and to get to know each other.  This is the first time in a couple of years that I have had a group that I could game with in person.    Gaming online is fine, but it can't beat gaming in person.

We play the game at this store called Gamer's Heaven and everyone is enjoying the game so much that we pitched in last night and got a private room (since gaming at the open tables can get a bit loud.  We started the night out at the open tables and as soon as I made the arrangement, we got the private room reserved for our game all month and will continue to in coming months.

Why do I love my group so much?

Well, they are great people, friendly, love to role play, and are there to have fun.  No politics, no religion (unless it has to do with the game) they are just there to role play.

If there is a question about the rules someone at the table knows enough about the rules to pitch it.  They don't give the person crap; they simply pitch in to keep the game going.

If need be, I can pull back and just let them role play a conversation, so it's not just combat, combat, combat.

There was a funny scene in the first session where a character who worked as a cook at the in served a stew to one of the players who was a Harengon and they got into a conversation about what the cook character Montgomery makes and Montgomery the cook explained that he last week served rabbit, to the Harengon's horror and it was a really funny exchange.

When you are putting together a group it can be a toss-up whether you get a good group or not.

I was lucky, I got a great group.

Congrats! It's hard enough to get a group, let alone one where every member is good-natured and social. My last group was like that too. We're not really THAT good friends outside of gaming, but when we do get together, we put aside our differences. Sometimes I get nipped at by the GM, other times we holler at one another when things go bad, but it's always in good fun and cheer.

You are quite right.   I know I am lucky.  I have had OK groups before or groups where people come and go.   I have a good feeling that this group could last.  Of course, you can never be 100% on these things.

That sounds like an awesome group! Game on!
The worms crawl in and the worms crawl out
The ones that crawl in are lean and thin
The ones that crawl out are fat and stout
Your eyes fall in and your teeth fall out
Your brains come tumbling down your snout
Be merry my friends
Be merry

That is great!  Always fun when you've got a good group.  I'm happy for you, sincerely.  I've got a pretty good group as well, but I'm yearning for an in-person game, too, which would cut a couple of them and likely mean we'd have to bring someone else new in.  Always changes the dynamic.  It's great you have at least that issue solved.  Now all you have to focus on is coming up with fun stuff to do!

Yeah until this group formed I had been playing online and while its fun it doesn't beat in person gaming.

Now that I am back to in-person gaming I never want to go back.

Hell yeah, this is now a brag-on-your-group thread.  8)

I'm beyond lucky; I have two fantastic groups that I play regularly with on Thursdays, alternating the groups every week. We've been playing together for over 11 years now, with the group growing to the point where I had to split them into two separate groups.

The Karaccian Conquerors consists of Taran Featherkeep (fighter), Rhys (thief), Alf (magic-user), Allen (fighter), and Thistle Briarwillow (gnome). They're currently playing through my latest module, RC3 Trouble in Southshore.

The Daldor Devils consists of Urk (magic-user), Black Paddy (dwarf), Argos (fighter), Grunk (dwarf), and Brother Nifel (cleric). If any of y'all are familiar with "Old Man Grognard"/Glen Halstrom, he's in this group. They're currently tackling the Keep on the Borderlands.

I honestly couldn't ask for a better group of dudes to play with. They're all invested in the campaign world/their characters, they're all proficient with the rules/known how to play their shit, they all work together well as groups without in-fighting or back-stabbing, and above all their just rad dudes to hang out with.

Here is a link to how my players used Cave Catering. It started when they were searching the keep in Tales from the Laughing Dragon and right in front of the spy hole, one of the players shouted "Yoohoo! Cave Catering! Anyone home?" and the bad guys failed a save and responded.

Two gaming groups that each play every other Thursday!  That's an embarrassment of riches, Mithgarthr!  Looks like dreams can come true.  Cool gaming area as well.

Maybe I should start another thread but I marvel at GMs that can do weekly play.  First, the wife would veto that.  Plus, I'd be prepping almost all the time (I may be a tad obsessive there).

In any event, congrats!  That gives hope to the rest of us looking to have an in-person, regular gaming group soon(-ish).

Right before my wife and I had gotten married in August of '11, Game of Thrones had started up. Towards the end of that first season, I made the offhand comment to her that the show made me miss playing D&D (hadn't played in a year or two). She said, "Well why don't you call up some friends and start a game, then?" Our first session was the weekend after we got back from our honeymoon. :)

Your wife is vastly more understanding than mine.   ;D
Congrats for that as well!
