This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Good "shooter" sci-Fi RPG

This is pretty much the opposite of the type of sci-fi games I like to run.

i am not much into running a sci-fi but if i were it i would most likely draw on my being a star trek fan space is just an excuse to go to lots of different places and i can do the same thing with the planes

Space Marines? CHECK! As a career in the most basic rules (book 1)!
Powered Armour? CHECK! Battledress.
Shotguns in SPAAACE? CHECK! And they hit HARD!
Big plasma guns? CHECK! With Book 4: Mercenary.
Alien beasts to shoot at? CHECK! In Book 3.
Alien Bugs ala Starship Troopers? CHECK! In the "Chamax" adventure.
Aliens ala the Alien(s) film(s)? CHECK! The "Reticulan Parasite" in an early JTAS magazine!

Even "civilian" PCs tend to be ex-military with serious combat skills.

The only thing missing are vehicle rules, unless you want to use the Striker wargame rules (which are a bit complicated) and then you get ALL THE TANKS YOU WANT!

In space everyone can hear you pump your 12-gauge!

does it have alien bugs ala the enders series (although i suppose those weren't really war storys)
If your having tier problems i feel bad for you son i got 99 problems but caster supremacy aint 1.

Apology\'s if there is no punctuation in the above post its probably my autism making me forget.

Stars Without Number is a good sci-fi OSR game, and it's easy to tweak it one way or another as your preference dictates. It has rules for starship (and, in the non-free version, mech) construction as well as large-scale behind-the-scenes political, business and military conflicts between different factions. The Skyward Steel supplement details space fleets and naval campaigns, Darkness Visible is about espionage and secret ops, Engines of Babylon is good for expanding your vehicular options for tactical combat, and a mercenary-oriented supplement will be published later this year.
Obvious troll is obvious. RIP, Bill.

I think there was a d20 Starship Troopers RPG by Mongoose a few years ago.  I don't know if it was any good.

Stargate SG-1 could conceivably fit the bill with not too much tweaking.  I didn't like that one when I owned it, though.

Buck Rogers XXVc?

Quote from: S'mon;820207The RPGs all seem much more low-key than the videogames - they do ALIENS style squad level stuff, you can be Hicks but not not Shephard or Master Chief. I really don't think there *are* any high-power military space opera rpgs on the market? Even traditional Star Wars type space opera is pretty thin on the ground.

I tend to agree, but since the OP asked, I posted something I figured he could use.

I actually think it was one of the best products made during the d20 craze.
