This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A question on GURPS

Quote from: Imperator;470532These are the exact suggestions I was looking for. Could you give me a bit more detail on why do you like those books, why they ar so useful or what parts are specially interesting?

I have the impression that there's a real wealth of usefulness there.
I'm late to the show, and I won't say anything that hasn't been said already, but I don't care.

Most GURPS historical supplements are excellent, I'm hard pressed to mention any GURPS historical supplement that is not at least good. What parts are specially interesting? The ideas for campaigns and adventures, they are excellent. Some examples:

GURPS Imperial Rome. Late Roman Empire. The PCs are slaves and servants in a country house. There are news of barbarians, pillage and loot. The domina states she won't leave the land she inherited from her ancestors. What do you do?

GURPS Russia. Ivan the Terrible executes a boyar for treason in the presence of the PCs, and afterwards gives his lands to one of them (refusing Ivan the Terrible? not a great idea). The first thing they've got to do is evict his wife and his sons from his house. The boyar's neighbors respected him, and will resent the PCs, as they are clearly agents of the Czar.

GURPS Middle Ages. The PCs are Saxon nobles and warriors. The Normans invade. Have fun.

My favorite ones are GURPS Imperial Rome, GURPS Russia, GURPS Vikings, GURPS Middle Ages, GURPS Greece, GURPS Aztecs, all the historicals. I also found GURPS Infinite Worlds and GURPS Alternate Earths fascinating.
Grając zaś w grę komputerową, być może zdarzyło się wam zapragnąć zejść z wyznaczonej przez autorów ścieżki i, miast zabić smoka i ożenić się z księżniczką, zabić księżniczkę i ożenić się ze smokiem.

Nihil sine magno labore vita dedit mortalibus.

And by your sword shall you live and serve thy brother, and it shall come to pass when you have dominion, you will break Jacob's yoke from your neck.

Dios, que buen vasallo, si tuviese buen señor!

Quote from: RPGPundit;470815GURPS Imperial Rome is simply the best single rpg sourcebook on Rome ever written. Its a great resource for any campaign set in Rome, or in a roman-like setting.

RPGPundit
Although GURPS Imperial Rome is awesome, you should have a look at BRP Rome. It's one of the best historical supplements for an RPG.

If I had to choose which one is better, I wouldn't know what to say, it's like asking which of my kids I love more.

Aztecs
Old West

All of these for the fact that the wealth of historical/cultural information they give you is also actually useful in a RPG. Also, Aztecs is practically the only decent RPG source material available on the subject.
Yes, the best part of GURPS Aztecs is that it is actually useful for gaming, specially the part about the pochteca.

QuoteI hear Russia is good as well, but haven't found a print version of it yet.
It is.
