This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

2015: What % of players balk at random chargen

Jan will occasionally grumble about just missing the stats for so-n-so class in AD&D. But she allways just sits down and puzzles out something else in those cases. Bemusingly about every time she is in the mood to play a non- ranger or non-fighter class in AD&D she misses it by like 1 point even with creative race selection. Yet she is not a fan of point buy systems.

Why not just let her have the point, in that case? She hasn't shown a lack of skill or ability, just not rolled an arbitrary lucky number on chargen day.

In the Baldur's Gate games, if you selected a class with stat minimums, when you rolled your stats it took the highest of (Your roll) or (The class's stat minimum).

DMs have offered that. But she doesnt like favoritism or handouts when she can just work with what she has and try something new. I think she declines so she has a reason to try new things and mix it up a little.

Fair enough. Whatever works.

Quote from: Omega;818577Does that include the ones that declined to play because of random chargen because then they arent players in your group right?

No one has ever declined to be in one of my groups, because I'm very exclusive of who I invite.   Anyone who I think wouldn't fit into the type of game I run or the rest of the group, or various other conditions, would not be invited.
