This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Greetings!

I just got the new book in the mail today. I have only skimmed it so far, and the book looks very nice. There are seven main adventures, maps of the town and local areas, and in the back are lots of NPC's and monsters and creatures, from skeletons and Koalinth, to young Krakens, Sea Lions!!!!! (SEALIONING!!!!) and more. Also some new magic items, and random tables for sea-adventures and coastal adventures, for encounters and various kinds of discoveries and details. All looks fucking cool.

Have any of you gotten the book yet, my friends?

Yep. First thing that caught my eye were the maps on page 15 & 23. Took me a minute to realize they flipped the compass orientation on them. WTF ever happened to putting N towards the top of the map?

Yes, HappyDaze! That is weird, having North going to the right and left like that in those maps! I'm also used to North always being at the top.:D They probably did it that way so the map would fit the page better, I'm guessing.

I also like how in the front section of the book, they provide lots of little details for NPC's in the town, as well as details on the local shops and businesses. I always like that kind of stuff. I can quickly extrapolate from that while playing, using just a few notes on anything I have changed.

Spinachcat, do you have GHOSTS OF SALTMARSH? What do you think of the new book so far?

This orientation thing caused a multi-page meltdown on EN World. Mps R srz bznz! :D

I received from GoSM today, impressed with the re-imagining. I already have one Saltmarsh campaign underway with my experienced group, and hope to start a second with a group of novices/near-novices in the not-too-distant future.

Picked a copy up at my FLGS on Sunday.

I haven't delved into the 'adventure' part yet, but I have been looking at the stuff in the Appendix mostly.
I like the random tables and the expanded rules.

Since I still have my hard copies of the original U1-3 modules, I was more interested in the added material.

It will be interesting to see how it compares to the original, though.

The map thing does annoy me, but it looks like they did it because it fit better...although, if that was the case, then they should have put North the same direction on both maps.

Hi Moonsweeper! I also like the random tables. I always like more resources, and random tables. It makes scratching up a quick adventure very easy, as well as entertaining. I often enjoy the suspense of myself not knowing how everything is going to develop. I've had random encounters often become very compelling on the fly, and the players chomp on that and before I realise it, I have a whole new adventure to work on for next week, because they captured a Purple Shark-Man, and want to know where he comes from, and what organization he and his purple shark-men brothers belong to.:D

It is the same way in the original. U2 - Danger at Dunwater, page 30. It was done because the map was drawn as a letter sized landscape , not portrait.

Interesting! Well, Rob, what do you think of the new GHOSTS OF SALTMARSH?:D

I got it. Flipped to the new rules on ships and seafaring. They are pretty good and in depth.

I was disappointed by the special edition cover, though. It's super muted and hard to make out. The normal edition cover looks better; a missed opportunity.

So far so good. I liked the original a lot and like Yawning Portal it is faithful to the original. Still reading up on the ones adapted from later eras. I like that Saltmarsh is fleshed out and there are hooks into the larger Greyhawk setting. Appendix A is in the same ballpark as my efforts so I have no complaints there. Most importantly it will be handy. So far is is solid B+ bordering on an A.

Holy fuck! I shouldn't be surprised after the idiotic Math is Racist horseshit these people came up with a few years back. Yet here I am, in total bewilderment over the sheer stupidity and audacity of these people.

I was going to come into this thread and ask a question about Saltmarsh...but now I can't recall exactly what I was wondering.
The more clichéd my group plays their characters, the better. I don't want Deep Drama™ and Real Acting™ in the precious few hours away from my family and job. I want cheap thrills, constant action, involved-but-not-super-complex plots, and cheesy but lovable characters.

Good to hear, Rob! So far, I'm liking everything I see in Ghosts of Saltmarsh as well. I think a grade of B+ or A is good for it too.

Supposedly there were going to be more indepth vehicle rules, are those in there? That'd be my primary reason for picking it up.
