This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Yeah. Its a shame. The fact that they didn't cover more ground before the licence was pulled is an issue too.

I am watching C7's attempt with interest. I get the feeling we will see the same game with better production values and more in each release. That will help some. But unless they revamp the system like Arion did for Advanced Fighting Fantasy, it is going to be hard to justify buying it.

TBH if I wanted to run Lone Wolf I would use the OGL version (which is good, especially as LW started as a D&D campaign) and draw on MPG books, particularly Sommerlund, as needed.

I would consider FF books and the like a "pre-RPG" experience.  A gateway-drug, if you will.  I consider the first RPG I ever played to be D&D; but before I played D&D (red box) I had read a lot of FF books, and choose-your-own-adventure type books before that.

I hope D&D Next has a solo adventure included.

Omega

Somewhere I still have the wargame illustrated by the same FF artist.

Interesting too that the Fighting Fantasy games eventually tried their hand at turning it into an actual RPG.

Still trying to get a copy of the new DestinyQuest FF-style gamebook that apparently is very freeform. Curious how that works.

I have a copy that I would be willing to sell (but shipping costs from NZ would be prohibitive). It was an ambitious idea. Though freeform, it feels a little too videogamey for my tastes and lacked the writing quality of FF or Lone Wolf.

Dungeoneer was actually a very good rpg! Particularly when you added in the stuff from the Blacksand sourcebook.

It was a lot of fun but had some issues. The main one was that Skill levels were way too high and having a high Skill grant more Special Skill points was a big problem. And there was no armour. I find the changes made by Arion Games to pretty much take the good underlying structure from Dungeoneer and elevate it past these issues into something quite robust.
