This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: KrakaJak;282117There's a lot of lines like "The Director should..." and "The players should..." for suggestions that are are more like style preferences. Here's an example,

While not bad advice in the least, it suggests to me a kind of "one true way."

It's really just a tone thing, rather than a content thing.

I see what your saying, and I think I share your dislike of the "one true way" junk, the line you quoted that gives this particular blurb a pass for me is "this is not advised", which immediately says to me that the author acknowledges that I can ignore what is being presented if I choose. I'm ok with that, but otherwise I'm with ya.

I don't see anything in that quote that would raise my alert signal.  It seems like your standard sort-of-bland GM advice.

QuoteWhile some roleplaying games foster an adversarial
relationship between players and directors, this is
not advised.

It is not a battle of wits to see who is more clever.

It is, however, a healthy exercise of the imagination as everyone (players and directors alike) attempts to bring a fictional world and its inhabitants to life.

For some campaigns, these statements are true. For others they are not. Really though, Pundit et. all, it's still a pretty great RPG and a pretty great game. However, "a little preachy" remains for me the tone I got when I read the GM section. YMMV :D
