This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Generic systems ?

The quadratic STR "issue" might make the pastrami more powerful than in Real Life (TM), but I can easily ignore that in play.

Quote from: Ravenswing;825913For my part, I don't do "tongue-in-cheek" when a newbie is asking for facts on games with which he's unfamiliar.  If I despise a game so rabidly that all I have to offer are bloated insults (hell, I don't "hate" D&D that much), then I'm just not going to bother, because I know I'm biased beyond rational discourse.

Yeah! So there!! *fist bumps Ravenswing*

Worse comes to worse, he skips GURPs.

And its an eminently skippable game system.

Nonsense that entire Youtube video was entirely debunked.  Light rye bread is the standard not that dense black brick-like stuff.

Nah.  Worst comes to worst, he thinks you're a troll.

Which, in this thread (however much I usually like your posts), you're being.
This was a cool site, until it became an echo chamber for whiners screeching about how the "Evul SJWs are TAKING OVAH!!!" every time any RPG book included a non-"traditional" NPC or concept, or their MAGA peeners got in a twist. You're in luck, drama queens: the Taliban is hiring.

That's pretty ridiculous. This isn't a GURPs (+) thread; there's nothing trolling about criticizing a game system, even in an incredibly humorous manner. But someone thinking I'm a troll because I stated my opinion on a game system, with a copious amount of wit and panache, isn't really a worst case scenario for me.

So everyone must play GURPs and like it, because you do?

Pull the other one, its got bells on it.

[sarcasm ]No no no. Not because I do, but because I told you to. You in particular should be playing it RIGHT NOW because I said so. Consider it reparations for your insensitive and horrible anti-GURPS comments. Also, I expect to hear lovely bells. LOVELY BELLS! [/sarcasm]

Also, I was starting a grade-school nany-nany boo boo (no, yes, no, yes) argument with you but you didn't bite. I absolutely respect your opinion about GURPS. Not every system is to everyone's taste. I would be a giant hypocrite to believe otherwise (I've only toyed with some hundred of them...). I just like to defend it because I like it.

I'm still playing out my awesome D&D5e game, but I'm planning on a GURPS game at the same time.  :-)

Actually greatly relieved to find you were joking. I think time online has lowered my expectations.

For what its worth, I'm glad people are out there enjoying GURPs even if it isnt for me. I'm a fan of the hobby in general, and  even when I critisize a game, I'm still not of the belief that game shouldn't exist or is badwrongfun or anything of the sort. Ultimately, roleplaying is roleplaying, and a system is just the instrument a group uses to make their music their way.

Ah, the Internet.  We have a tool at hand with all the great wisdom of the ages, a treasure trove of knowledge unsurpassed, and we use it to insult each other, look at nekkid people, and swap funny pictures of cats.

Quote from: David Johansen;825512One of the reasons BRP manages to do supers well is that it doesn't ever try to balance the characters.  In fact the character with the highest rolls gets the most power points so you can wind up with Robin and Superman on the same team.  I think HERO's as close as you can come to balanced supers.  But somehow HERO hasn't worked for me since high school.

Not even remotely true as the range between highest rolls and lowest rolls is more like the disparity between Angel and Iceman on the X-Men. Nice try, though.

The cats are usually nekkid too.

Steve Jackson should put that on the back of GURPS 5th Edition.
