This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Kyle AaronI've never heard of Saga. Are there any fans here who might start a thread telling us about it?
Star Wars Saga, to be specific.  SAGA is a common name used to refer to the system itself.  And there's been plenty of threads about it.

Quote from: J ArcaneThe impression I have gotten, based on the commentary online, and the nature of the praise it's been given, and from who.

As I put it in another thread, it seems an awful lot like the people who spend the msot time praising SAGA are the same people who constantly gripe about how "overcomplicated" D&D is, and in fact, a lot of the commentary on SAGA seems to include swipes at D&D as a matter of course.

I have not read it, and have no interest in purchasing it, in part because I prefer D6 for Star Wars, and in part because the fan reaction has turned me off completely.
Well, I'm a huge fan of 3.5.  I've been running 3.x ever since it came out, but I'm completely happy with the system.  I like the complexity and the modularity of it.  I'm running three very different kinds of games at the moment - a more political Arcana Evolved game, an oldschoolish Wilderlands game, and a gonzo kitchen-sink game.

With that said, I'm absolutely enchanted with Star Wars Saga.  I think it's an elegant and streamlined system ... for a Star Wars game.  I don't think importing most of its core changes and mechanics would improve a D&D game whatsoever.  It just wouldn't be appropriate for the genre.

OTOH, this is the first Star Wars rpg where I've considered actually running a Star Wars game, and I'm going to do so possibly as early as next week.
