This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The Delvelopers (Curse) have previously made Twitch videocasting software, and are owned by Twitch.

Voros

Meh, I have a Twitch account and rarely use it. Hardly a major barrier.

Signed up yesterday and thought it was pretty cool.  Splurged for the books and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to navigate through them.  Makes it really easy to work on D&D stuff at work.

Biscuitician

So you get the pdfs, does that entitle you to lifelong Beyond access, or do you still have to pay a monthly (or whatever) fee as well?

I'm not even sure you get pdfs.  You can get access to Beyond for as long as it exists for free.  It just means that you miss out on some tools, are limited to 6 characters, and subjected to ads.  If you purchase books or bundles you get full access to them even with Free Tier and if you join a Master Tier subscriber's campaign you get access to all their purchased content.  So for instance as soon as I subscribed at Master and bought the 3 core books plus SCAG and Volo's I sent an email to my group inviting them all to my "campaign" (another guy is actually running it).  None of them have to purchase those books now as long as they stay part of my campaign.

The descriptions are pretty clear.  Just go to Marketplace --> Subscriptions and scroll through everything.  They even have a handy table comparing access at all levels.

Dumarest

The only D&D materials I need, I already have. And I don't even use them, really, except maybe to adapt a table for use with a game I prefer. So I'll pass on whatever this scheme is.

It is largely unnecessary if you already have the books.  I considered it a luxury purchase for myself since I often have spare time at work but none at home (between two young daughters, a wife, and a house to maintain).  This way I have access to the books whenever I have access to the internet.

I've never found a need for more than AD&D and the Basic and Expert  sets, but I can see if you want thr new version and online access. Just seems a bit unseemly if they are making you buy stuff you already have.

mAcular Chaotic

I think the main sell so far is that the DM can buy the books then digitally allow all the players to use it, as well as having them generate their characters inside it and have it all in one place.
Battle doesn\'t need a purpose; the battle is its own purpose. You don\'t ask why a plague spreads or a field burns. Don\'t ask why I fight.

RPGPundit

This sort of thing certainly wasn't made for me.
