For some reason, I always pictured gaming as something we did in the evenings. Early sessions sprawled into late night forays as we whiled away the time. But then adulthood sprang upon us all, and our gaming has gone from afternoon to, now, Saturday morning sessions--we're talking 8:30 a.m. to noonish or thereabouts. When my wife first broached this idea, I thought it seemed weird and foreign. But everyone, including me, seems to REALLY like it. You get the gaming in and you still have the whole day ahead of you.
Which leads me to my queries: when is/are your usual gaming time(s)? And has anyone else here ever done the morning shift? Is there anyone who, like me, never even considered an a.m. start time, due to some weird preconception that gaming is an "evening (or at worst, afternoon) thing?"
I've done Monday evenings, and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Never done any gaming before Noon.
I've never considered morning-gaming before. I could do it, because I'm an early-riser anyway. But, I don't think I could get any gamers to my table at that time. I'd bet that they'd be either barely functional - not very attentive and not participating as much - or they'd need a caffeine-IV-drip and end up too wired.
I've done some ca 9.30am-12pm morning online games quite recently, they do work well as I am wide awake and clear-headed, making for better GMing.
Quick headcount question, which one are you?: morning (freak!), afternoon (delight), twilight (fan), or night (owl)?
I burst into flames upon sunlight, so I let that speak for itself... :p
Don't talk to me before 10am.
Even 9:30am start times at conventions are rough on me. Give met the 8pm to 2am slot any day!
But early morning gaming sounds great for a group of early risers!
Count me as early riser AND afternoon delight (and the gaming's not bad, either);-)
I'm so not a morning person. So much so that I can't even understand the words coming out of your mouth!
These days my online play is all evenings during the week due to the collective "real life" logistical concerns. The regular face-to-face gaming is on the weekends, where an early start is noon.
I think I'm a better DM in the noon to early evening timeframe.
Our gaming schdule for years was 9:00 am to 7:00 pm once a month on the first Saturday of the month.
9:00 AM on a Saturday?! But that leaves you like no recover time from your Friday night! An average one ends around 2 AM last call and a good one around 6 AM or the rising sun (and a great one with breakfast in bed after 11 AM...).
I tip my hat to your dedicated gaming. Couldn't you all have rescheduled to something more doable like 2 PM to midnight? Easier on the adrenal glands, gives time to sober up some, too. You guys are hardcore.

When every one in the group is in their forties, has two or three kids and works more than full time, no one is "going out" on Friday nights...
Ahh, mea culpa. Sleep and a chance to take a break must be a reward unto itself.

There it is...Tough to get a game going when you have the mini-me's.:-)
My kids are all out the house. I'm thinking surely I can find other folks in a similar state--nearing retirement, time on the hands, likes the hobby. A bit tough at the moment, considering I live in family-central (real nice neighborhood, though!). S'way it goes, I guess.

Only at cons or when doing weekends of gaming, e.g. game Friday night, Saturday morning and afternoon, etc.
I've gamed a number of weekend afternoons when our evening schedule was disrupted. I prefer evening gaming because to me it feels like the end time can be open...in theory we could play all night the way we used to when we were kids. In practice my players fall asleep before I run out of energy so practically speaking there isn't a lot of difference between gaming for 3-4 hours at night or 3-4 hours in the day. But it still feels different. I usually end up doing campaign bookkeeping, adventure log drafts, or next session planning after the players toddle off to bed.
Oh, hell no. I run my DCC game from 2pm, and it almost kills me, every single time. I only do this because my players have work or school on Mondays and so its the only possible way to get any players and put in a solid 8 hours of game time.

Why does starting from 2 pm almost kill you?
I'm a night person. I work the night shift. My midnight is like your noon. However. Saturday mornings seemed to work for everyone. I guess we all pretended it was like we were kids again and got up to watch Saturday morning cartoons and it just clicked. Though, our campaign isn't Rated G.

Because I'm usually a night person, and stay up for much of the night.
Now, on a weekday, I'm usually up by 2pm, but the weekend I play DCC (on Sunday) I also play Traveller (on Saturday), so I almost inevitably end up working after the Trav game ends (around 1am), until around 7am. Given that I have to be up and washed and dressed and eaten and emails checked and blog post written by 2pm, it's a bit of an ordeal.
