This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Dude, that's freaking awesome. I think there's a skull that comes from Monte Cook's collection in there. I remember him putting it up for auction on eBay. He's probably the guy who bought it in the end. That, or they both bought the same skull.

Anyway. Yeah. Awesome. That represents a good amount of work to put all this together, obviously. The guy must be proud.

True.  It's an awesome room, and worth a second look.

Hah hah, he owns Dragonraid.  Sucker.

Seriously, what else would you expect from the Acaeum?  These are the people who pay $8000 for old D&D box sets.  Look at this guy's shit, look at all the duplicates, it's no wonder they can run those ridiculous price guides of theirs so high when they've got guys hoarding shit like some kind of fucking diamond cartel.  I bet these are the guys who're pissed about Swords & Wizardry because suddenly they don't feel so elite when the price of entry doesn't run in the 4 figure range.

Watch somebody has a huge horde of several millions copies of various old 1E AD&D and D&D stuff, hidden away in a salt mine or mountain.

Wonder if those guys realize the D&D movie was a rancid pile of shit.  With the money they put into that movie stuff, could have easily afforded a Jody Samson Father's Sword or Phoenix Sword from the Conan movie.  Get some real memorabilia in there.

Awesome work though, especially on the walls and doors, although the slavish devotion to the label "Dungeons and Dragons" for me puts these guys into the type of collector I label "creepily obsessive".

For me, as a general gaming room I'd put all the work into the table itself with an emphasis on convenience and technology.

For busting out a game of O or A D&D though, it would be hard to find a better room.  I mean look at the DM screen.:jaw-dropping:

J Arcane,

What would the person who built that game room do with their money otherwise?  I mean, the guy is a total geek who probably will never get laid, so it's not like he needs the money to take women out on a date.

Its people like those that go way too far with this hobby and make me embarrassed to tell people I game.   People like that and the freaks who show up at game conventions dressed up.

I don't know. I don't see the point there is to just point a finger at the guy because he blew some money on his game room. There are worse things to blow your money on, I guess. Besides, isn't it basically geeks making fun of the geekery of other geeks? That's doesn't make much sense to me.

Also, for the record, I bought my OD&D set including Sup. I Greyhawk and Sup. III Eldritch Wizardry for a whooping $100. It's not like I blew in the four figures for it, and that was before all the retroclones came on the scene (which is awesome, imo). *shrug*

Christian

Sweet mercy. I would go into that room and never come out.

The thread mentions the dude has a D&D arcade game and the pinball table.  (No idea if he has BOTH D&D arcade games though.)

I'm a dork and a nerd and a packrat.  But I only buy shit I want to make USE of, and pay prices I think is fair for such a product.  Being a cheap ass eventually netted me White Box for under 50 bucks when it usually goes 2-3 times that.

(Maybe one day I can get a Vectrex for a reasonable price.  But probably not. :( )

Its one reason it sucks to like robot toys.  Most are happily willing to pay 100-300 bucks a toy for the things.  But the collectors all have tons of money and like gamblers don't really CARE how much something costs.  (Unless you complain about the price of something, or don't totally praise someone for spending nearly 10,000 DOLLARS on a toy.  If you do, you are a dick.  Since online communities are all about stupidity enabling sadly.)

Yeah if people can afford it they can do what they want.  Doesn't mean they should get E HUGZ for it.  A little dissent might keep em sane!

It IS a cool RPG room though.  I don't get the point of multiple boxes of almost anything though.

Shit the 2 OOP sealed games I have gotten (Ghostbusters International and Citytech 2nd edition) were cracked open the first minute I had a chance.

But.. I just don't get the collect to HAVE mentality.

He spent money so he could have a more enjoyable time with his mates. His mates get to have more fun when they go round to his place.

So he's spending money for a more fun social life. If we're going to condemn that, we have to condemn all the dollars we've spent on dinners out, drinking booze, going to crap movies, sports events, and so on.

Is there anyone here who never spent money on their social life? If there is, you must be very lonely.

I think the comments saying  "He'll never get laid with a room like that " are unfair and also unrealistic.

There are at least two or three young women gamers locally who if they saw a single guy had a room like that - it would likely guarantee the guy would get laid.

Of course, I guess southwestern Ohio is unusual in that there is a good spectrum of gamer women and a pretty high percentage of them are both very intelligent and quite attractive at the same time.
