This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

QuoteAh, I thought maybe it was a random prayer table. "I don't like rice, puny mortal! Be a statue!" :)

It is exactly like that. There´s a subtable for what happens when you make an offering. The apples weren´t good ones, it seems, he was told to be a statue.

Are there modifiers for quantity / quality of the offering, prayer-giver's charisma, etc.?

Just to elaborate; the four checks for doors are as follows: first a check to see if the door is a secret door, then to see the location of the door in a corridor, then to see if a door is locked or stuck, and then to see if a door is trapped or magically locked. Finally, there's also a roll to see whether there's a room or a passageway after the door.
All of these are simple 1D6 rolls, you could just roll 4 different coloured dice and do it all at once; its really not so complex.

As to statues or shrines, the nature of the sacrifice depends on whether you are of the same or a different alignment than the deity of the statue.  If you are of the same alignment, you roll 2d6 to determine if your sacrifice is accepted or not. The most probable result (6-8) is that nothing happens at all. All the other possible rolls have unique results that can either be good or bad. To be turned to stone you need to have rolled a 3 on 2d6.

Is Sett actually complaining that a random chart produces a random result? Is that the core of it all?

That's what I'm seeing. He apparently thought the chart would produce something less... random... and more designed. My suggestion to use the chart as a spur to his own creativity appears to not be what he wanted.

Yeah - that sounds like what most GMs would do. Use the random charts for inspiration and brainstorming  - not as the whole adventure or scenario.

I´m aware how I can use random results to inspire me, I´m a Traveller player and Mother of all encounter tables afficionado.

And my first playtests were with designed Dungeons.

But as the new foreword made it clear that this is a game that is supposed to be a pick up game, I wanted to try it out that way.

BTW, nobody complained about the "turn to stone result". It was, however, pointed out as an example that there are very few PAS checks coming up in the game. And it was a shock moment, in a fun way.

The only thing I´m complainig about is the stupid door rule.
Pundit, have you ever rolled up a dungeon with that rules yourself?
Maybe even on the fly?
I doubt it.

@ Flyingmice: did you get my email?
