The Chicken House on the Hill

Greetings!

Well, recently, a group of Adventurers became involved in a scenario where the party was engaged by three scheming and seductive Witches. The Witches appeared Human, though were far more than Human. The Witches were gathered into a lair which featured a forested hilltop, mounted by a large manor-house that overlooked the forest and lake far below. Beneath the hilltop manor-house, is a series of subterranean tunnels and lairs filled with monsters. The subterranean tunnels and caverns eventually led further downwards, opening into a mysterious subterranean grotto. The grotto features several streams flowing throughout, a cavern system of pools, and a shrine area centered around an enchanted pool, that is always shrouded in a shifting haze of mist.

Meanwhile, the great house at the top of the hill is very large and spacious, and surrounded by a strange fence made of gigantic chicken feet. The chicken legs themselves are posted into the earth itself, with large chicken feet splayed out, reaching skywards with seemingly grasping talons, occasionally twitching and moving about.

(1) Rescued Marglev, a Young Gingerbread Dragon that had been imprisoned by the Witches.

(2) The Witches were defended by groups of mutated Hunchbacked half-trolls.

(3) Evil, Gummybear Barbarians

(4) A Giant Maple Syrup Gelatinous Cube

(5) A Large, Chocolate Mousse Wolf

(6) A Cheesecake Golem

Overhead, hanging, flexible tubes of whipping Cream.

A bubbling vat filled with blackberry compote sauce.

Several enormous ovens.

Large mobile racks of pre-made frosted pie crusts, as well as numerous mobile racks of neatly stacked and ordered loaves of freshly-baked bread.

The party had discovered the disturbing set of large blackberry pies, which were also filled with children from the nearby town of Chalyagev. Two of the party's henchmen had also been thrown head-first into gigantic blackberry pies, filled with bubbling blackberry filling, and blasted with whipped cream. One of the party members, a Wizard, was nearly killed by being engulfed within a floating globe of Vanilla Frosting.

The group managed to rescue and befriend a Peppermint Patty War Hound, as well as uncovering a crystal prison within the subterranean grotto, where they rescued Lyuba, "The White Maiden" and Princess of Zharneva.

Within the subterranean levels, the party discovered several groups of young children, being kept in Human herds for safekeeping. The children were used mostly as food, being eaten ass pie filling, or roasted in the ovens, covered in gravy and diced vegetables. Some of the children were taken out of the Human herds, and trained into the Witch's religion serving the Dark Gods. Four of these children have thus become mutated, and corrupted into terrible, evil monsters, devoted to evil and wickedness. One of the evil mutant children was killed in the fighting, though the other three managed to escape.

One of the evil Witches, Galina, was killed in combat. One of the Witches, Sarvenya, was defeated, and captured by the group. A third Witch, Yessenya, also managed to escape. The group has now sought to recover, and escort the Witch Sarvenya back to the town of Chalyagev.

The adventure included some insane environmental factors, and some hilarious fight scenes! The group definitely enjoyed the entire adventure, and the different opponents, hazards, and locations.

Have you used some similar elements in adventures?

Ok I gotta ask "ass pie filling"? Is that a common witch delicacy?  LOL!!  Sounds absolutely awesome.

Nice

Out of all of that, I love the idea of the 'chicken leg' fence. I WILL have to use that in the future !

WERDNA

Very Baba Yaga X Brothers Grimm. You have my approval!

Mishihari

It puts me in mind of Shrek, or more recently Puss in Boots (a wonderful movie), which is great if you're in a whimsical mood.  The only thing I can remember doing like that is the old, old Wonderland modules for AD&D

Vic99

Awesome.  Bind that in a book and sell it.

Zenoguy3

Very interesting. Love weird witchy stuff. Can be both goofy and terrifying.

*Laughing* Ahh, yes, my friend! A typo, I'm afraid! Intended "as pie filling". But yes, having children baked into blackberry pies and eaten by the monsters was of course horrific--but also amusing in a macabre kind of way. The Players were very concerned when two of their Henchmen characters were shoved inside giant pies, filled with bubbling hot blackberry sauce! As the two Henchmen screamed, they were doused with blasts of cold whipped cream from mobile tubes hanging from the ceiling overhead. The party was moving fast, seeking to fight their enemies, while also being conscious of some of the very dangerous hazards in the environment. One of the party's Fighters slipped and fell flat on their ass in whipped cream and berry sauce splattering everywhere into a gooey, sticky mess. Punctuated by racks of large pie crusts falling everywhere. Many of the "Pie Crusts" are actually the size of a King-sized bed, so they can easily accomodate several children, or several adult-sized humanoids. A very interesting and fun dungeon!

Thank you, Lurker! Yeah, the wriggling chicken-feet fence weirded several players out! Amusing, but also a foreshadow that not everything in the environment was what it seemed, or therwise definitely not normal. *Laughing*

*Laughing* Yes, WERDNA! Thank you! Yes, my love for ancient mythology shows through! I do enjoy mixing up standard adventuring, military stuff, normal heroics, with some off-beat mythology and creepy stuff from legends. It makes for ingredients that are a nice change of pace for sure!

Hah hah, my friend! Yes, I think some whimsical elements or rather, the occasional whimsical episode, can serve to set the stage in a very different light, and provide lots of strange surprises and adventure that is different. Different characters, different challenges, and different motivations, all combine to make something very awesome.

Semper Fidelis,

It might show up in a D&D/fantasy game here or there, but it just dawned on me where the perfect use for it to be introduced at my table. My girls' face to face Delta Green / CoC game. It will be a bit before we get to it, but I have an idea for a corrupted 'nature spirit' running amuck in the Nebraska corn fields. Sort of a mix between 'Children of the Corn' 'Pumpkin Head' 'Pet Cemetary' and living scarecrow horror stories.

Your chicken leg fence is the PERFECT fence for surrounding the ancient hill burial mound that the spirit resides in .

Thanks for the idea to mine !
