Nightfall

So apparently this was supposed to be it. Two major combats, two runes, one winner. Well we got it half right...

As it is customary, I've noticed that paladins and Glabazerus enjoy each other company just less than ecologists and nuclear power plants. It's also what inspired our Oracle of Battle to take (as part of his curse) reverse gravity as a spell. Naturally that came into play when we started towards the Glyph of Fury. (I prefer to think of it as Glyph of Lightning.)

So as we Wind walked ourselves there to the Weeping cliffs, we ended up realizing "Hey there's a lot of ROPERS around there!" 4 of which surrounded the glyph. Now naturally there was some concern since ropers ranged attacks deal str damage. However as I had the highest fort save, I was less concerned. (Being bitten was a bigger concern) In any case it took 5 rounds for us to become completely corporeal. This also meant while we had some good miss chances, it was also not good for attacking.

I decided to move myself just outside the ropers to see if I could get a better look at the glyph. I wasn't able to reach it, but I was able to not get hit by the ropers. (Well miss chance did that. I wasn't great on touch AC...) In any case, we soon realized force effects worked. So naturally our Magus (who make it a SECOND time in a row. A new record!), cast a maximized magic missile. We still managed to manveur around, do a few personal spells and then back to yours truly.

I moved in between the ropers and tried touching the glyph to see if I could get a feel of how to best deactivate it. Naturally the DM was like "It's angry...." and I'm like "And?!" "And it's angry. You need to wait a full minute before you can fully understand its workings." Fortunately while this was happening the lighting bolts that came from glyph missed most of the party Or it just pass through them. (The ropers didn't care since they're immune. Nor did the Oracle. Cause HE'S now immune and it hadn't been more than 24 hours...)

Anyway so that was our state as I got down to around...25% miss chance. Then I unleashed my power of the Holy light. Ropers failed and they took damage along with being blinded for a round. This helped with them not targeting me too well. (Apparently though the Blindness over-rid the 25% miss chance for being incorporeal.)

That allowed us time for our conjurer to finally make it and he was like "Huh." So he then cast Telekinetic Sphere on one of the ropers...and up he went! That was quickly followed by two more them thanks to the Oracle casting Reverse gravity in a nice semi-circular cubical pattern. Naturally I stood with the glyph. I did try to activate my smite...but it was kind of waste as I realized they were all pretty much floating.

So then our conjurer comes up with a GREAT idea. Walls of Force (since we were at a Cliff face.) that allowed only ONE entry. This coupled with the other roper moving out the reverse gravity effect, made it much easier for us to deal with the next 4 ropers WHILE I managed to figure out how it worked.

I was glad I did stick with it (though if you knew what I've known, you'd know I was the best candidate for this task.), as I made all four of my Diplomacy checks (+26 bitches!!!) with out failing. This deactivated the glyph and we then off and on our way back to the genie for a quick rest.

And quick it was! We had less than 24 hours before Earthfall. But we managed to get rested, refreshed and leveled to 16th. Of course the genie had 3 wishes for us. I petitioned that we learn the best way to destroy the Master Glyph. All we got was a cryptic answer in the form of "You must destroy all five glyphs." (I thought we did!!!)

Anyway then it was our oracle's turn to be silly and got a magic sleigh that, if he rode in it, he would never get out. (But it was fast! No reindeer however...) Finally I wished for us to appear at the Throne of Abraxus. We were there. And boy were we surprised with the welcome! 24 drow soldiers, 12 driders, 24 dire bats, and no partridge to be seen!

Fortunately both I and our conjurer rolled high on our Inits, but I beat him with my dex score. That being said, I was like "Okay...this is a wizard's job." Naturally what followed didn't totally surprise anyone. Pristmatic Spray followed with more Spray to keep the rest out of combat. It worked..if only because most failed their saves and got sent to random planes of existence. (Some where in Hell, there are driders working in the coal mines.) The others got turned to stone, melted into puddles via acid (most failing their massive damage saves.), or just going plain "insane". I stood back for the most part and kept with my bow. It took us maybe a little less than an hour in real time (4 rounds in game time). But overall we didn't suffer as much as some us feared.

Then came the door guards. 4 Vrocks and one Glaberuz. Naturally the Glaberuz got the drop on us in the Init order...and viola! Reverse Gravity on EVERYONE! It helps though that the magus, our conjurer and druid could fly (overland flight and air elemental). I made my save. So did the Oracle. But now I was like "Finally!!!" After a tough go of it, (thanks to the Glab's unholy aura and some lucky spell shots) we managed to kill them all. (I wanted the Glaberzu but our Oracle of battle beat me to it.) The came the ambush...as we opened the main doors and inside we got blitzed by Drow Priestesses!

Wands of Fireballs! Wands of Lighting bolts! Chaos Hammers. I went from 214 (3 off my max/full HP.) to 59 in just TWO rounds. Fortunately we kept our heads, and our conjurer with some well timed acid pits and aqueous orb, managed to disable a good number of them. I had my sword already enchanted up to +5 and holy. So after few good strikes, they all died.

Then came the thing that I think will give us all nightmares. An Xacarba. Think EXTREMELY huge (Garguantan sized) snake demon and you're half way there. The damn thing took our wizards spells and made ITSELF hasted and greater heroism-ied. You read it right. That's part of it's effect. Then came the attack...and yours truly getting wrapped up by its coils. I did manage to get my smite off (though I was slightly pissed that the DM was saying "If you fail the save, your smite doesn't work. I made it  It did..)

Then finally it decided (after our conjurer got me covered in grease via grease spell and thus out of its clutches), to greater teleport BEHIND our conjurer (who had moved back into the far hallway and well away from its "steal spell" effect.) Naturally we thought he was dead.. However he did try to use his dimensional hop...but instead it turned it against ME!! so I ended up hopping back to end of the island... or close enough. Anyway our Oracle did finish it off, but not before our wizard had to go get me. Still I like to think my smite of 65 damage did contribute...but honestly I'm pretty sure his oracle spell of holiness did most of the damage.

Anyway then came the kick in the door...and then nothing. Because we had to leave. (That and we already had the druid AND the Magus leave because they had lives/work.) So now we're trying to figure out the best way to finish this, as well as involve them while our conjurer might be out for quite some time (Partly because of work, but some of it because of family...)

Both Web and Grease are good spells against Glabrezu because neither one is susceptible to SR, and Glabrezu have shitty reflex saves.

I gave up on exploding on these forums simply because of the uncaring nature of the internets.

Yeah well no more Glabbys to worry about. Just Vrocks. The Xacarba was MUCH tougher.

Uhm maybe you didn't see this but I figured I'd highlight for you...

So yeah. 16th level. We were at 15 when we went to the last glyph...

Also a picture of the Xacarba.
