This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I know most of us like a bit of variety, so it might be difficult to answer the poll. But which one do you find yourself most naturally fitted to in both enjoyment and results?

Darran

As a general genre I like Sci-Fi the best as you seem to get many more different flavours.

The best is the 'Spaceships with Ashtrays' type like Firefly and Alien.

Why, cyberpunk and superheroes, of course!

Fifth Element

Fantasy's my favourite. Always wanted to try western, haven't had the chance yet.

Silverlion

I cannot vote. You left superheroes off completely, and while fantasy is a very close second, it is a second.
High Valor REVISED: A fantasy Dark Age RPG. Available NOW!
Hearts & Souls 2E Coming in 2019

Benoist

This is hard for me.
All other considerations being equal, I chose Fantasy in the end, because that's what I play the most.

stu2000

I like espionage best, and you left that off, too.
Employment Counselor: So what do you like to do outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.
EC: My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

Soylent Green

What, no superheroes? You call that a poll?
New! Cyberblues City - like cyberpunk, only more mellow. Free, fully illustrated roleplaying game based on the Fudge system
Bounty Hunters of the Atomic Wastelands, a post-apocalyptic western game based on Fate. It\'s simple, it\'s free and it\'s in colour!

One Horse Town

I never said it was definitive...

ColonelHardisson

For RPGs, fantasy. For anything else - literature, TV, movies - it's science fiction.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

aramis

What's missing is "Space Fantasy" like Star Wars and Star Trek. Neither even comes close to being true SciFi....

My favorite genre of fiction is sci-fi, but in terms of the most enjoyable campaigns I've been in, fantasy would be first with sci-fi a close second.

And historical and Western are two categories?

I picked historical, which I take to include Western, with which I like to run espionage-tinged adventures.
On weird fantasy: "The Otus/Elmore rule: When adding something new to the campaign, try and imagine how Erol Otus would depict it. If you can, that\'s far enough...it\'s a good idea. If you can picture a Larry Elmore version...it\'s far too mundane and boring, excise immediately." - Kellri, K&K Alehouse

I have a campaign wiki! Check it out!

Hackmaster

As a GM, I have always found fantasy the easiest to come up with plots for. I usually run fantasy.

As a player I've always loved sci fi the best, especially with a military bent. Some favorite games include the original Spacemaster, Star Frontiers and Cyberpunk 2020. Oddly enough, I've never played Traveller.

GnomeWorks

Steampunk. No questions asked.

I enjoy fantasy and sci-fi well enough, but nothing can hold my attention like steampunk can.
Mechanics should reflect flavor. Always.
Running: Chrono Break: Dragon Heist + Curse of the Crimson Throne AP + Egg of the Phoenix (D&D 5e).
Planning: Rappan Athuk (D&D 5e).
