This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Humans
T'skrang (Earthdawn swashbuckling reptilians)
Obsidimen (Earthdawn rock-folk)
Nezumi (L5R ratlings)
Durulz (Glorantha duck-folk)
Bronth (Jorune bear-people)
Thriddle (Jorune's answer to Pierson's Puppeteers -- an NPC race, but I love them!)
Skaven (WFRP ratlings)
Halflings (Xcrawl)
Agogwe (Nyambe's version of Halflings -- crabby, lethal and weaselly)
Trolls (Shadowrun)
Vorox (Fading Suns four-armed brutes with a dry sense of humour -- yes, FS is fantasy.  Just fantasy in space, is all.)

Gotta be dwarves when I'm not playing human.

When I play.
I start from his boots and work my way up. It takes a good half a roll to encompass his jolly round belly alone. Soon, Father Christmas is completely wrapped in clingfilm. It is not quite so good as wrapping Roy but it is enjoyable nonetheless and is certainly a feather in my cap.

elves.  i'm a tree-hugger at heart.
obsidimen from earthdawn are fun, too.
wanted to try skaven sometime, or slitheren from the scarred lands. . . .

Elfs, then Humans, generally. It depends on the way elfs are treated by the game in question, though - I never liked Dark Sun's elves, but I do like Shadow World's treatment.

When I'm GMing my elfs tend to be utter bastards so they get more screen time than my dwarfs (even though I probably like them as much) because they act as obstacles for the PCs more often than dwarfs do.

Personally, I dont gravitate twoards any one race than the other, or favor one. I usually pick one and go with it.

I find it facinating how alot of people pick human as the race they favor most. Perhaps its the easiest to simulate, ;D. One poster gave a pretty good explination of why he chose humans, and I think to the most part that playing a different race is subjective to perhaps your own outlook of what they should or should not be.

However I will add that one of my favorite characters is a Gnome. :D

I didn't think the point of this thread was to explain our preference, just state it.  But I suppose...

Non-humans are just humans with deformities who happen to be from stereotypical mono-cultures.

So, humans all the way.

beeber

you're a human every day.  humans are boring.

other races are a blank parchment to fill however i want, within the limitaitions placed by the referee or setting.

Mcrow

Dwarves.

Seems appropriate for me.:D

Speak for yourself. I'm far more interested in how my fellow human deals with an  alien world, than how some alien thinks.

i am.

how your human deals, etc.?  so you play the lone human in an orcish (or whatever) society, then?  interesting.

the alien pointing out the oddities in human society is fun, too.  so much material, especially since many worlds end up being human-centric anyway.

droog

Yes, I think non-humans are good for someone wanting to play a theatrical mask, as it were. They give you an opportunity to play a chr who is an exaggeration of some aspect of humanity.

Well if you put it that way, then humans.  But there is no requirement non-humans be mono-cultural.  It may be the case because of lack of imagination in most commercial settings they are.
