Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). D&D 4e -- Will you buy it?

*sigh* ... Here we go again ...

Quote from: J ArcaneI was referring more to a history of slagging on D&D3 at the slightest provocation.  He denies it of course, but that doesn't stop him popping up and doing it again at every possible occasion.

Look, J Arcane, I'll try to make it simple for you.  Try to wrap your mind around the following three points:

1.  3e is not my favourite fantasy role-playing game.  I've never claimed that it was.

2.  3e is not my favourite fantasy role-playing game for certain specific reasons (including the reliance on minis in its combat system, which is IME more accute than in it is other versions of the game; YMMV on the role of minis, whatever).

3.  Nonetheless, I do not 'hate' 3e.  Hell, I've played it in the past (as recently as last year), and will likely do so again.  In other words, while I prefer certain other games over 3e, I like 3e enough to be willing to play it again (i.e. I don't hate it).

Why is this so difficult for you to comprehend?  Why can you not understand the possibility that a game might not be one's favourite game without hating that game?

There's nothing 'passive aggressive' about my position regarding 3e D&D.  It's crystal clear.  Nothing could be more simple.  I rank it about a 7 out of 10 in terms of preference.  That's pretty good.  Other games rank higher.

Anyhow, it seems really important to you, for some inescapable reason, to think that I 'hate' 3e D&D.  Well, feel free to carry on with that delusion if it makes you feel good.  It's not true, as I've tried to explain above, but hell, it makes no difference to me (so long as you could graciously cut back on the nutty personal attacks).

Quote from: Blue DevilYeah I can see what you mean.

I'd be grateful if J Arcane could actually point to a post in which I engage in the behaviour of which he accuses me.

Amusingly, despite several such requests, he has yet to provide me with a link to any such posts.

Why do I argue with delusional people?

Given that you apparently have already forgotten your own posts in this thread, I should probably be asking myself that question.

So not only do you suddenly forget that every single post you make on this board about 3.X is uniformly negative (at least until someone calls you on it, then you switch to the spineless backpedalling I expect from a professional diplomat or PR agent), but you can't even remember slagging on it in this very thread.

It's fascinating.  It's like there's two of you posting from the same account or something.  Have any of the admins checked the IPs to make sure someone isn't hijacking Akrasia's account?

I dunno.  I don't know what you and J. Arcane have going on.  He mentioned you and the way he sees the way you are.   I wasnt saying he was right or wrong, I was just saying I understood what he said.

Hey , everyone knows that D&D is NOT my favorite system.

However, I am likely to buy it when it comes out - IF a 4th edition ever comes out.  Not sure if I'll buy it for full price or not....the release of it is years away. Might still have my store discount by then or be in a position in my company to get a free promo copy of the PHB.

My own posts?  I expressed my dislike for the fact that 3.5 combat rules seem to depend heavily on miniatures use (based on my experience with the rules in 3 campaigns), and my worry that this will be even more the case in 4e.

Is that 'slagging' 3e, according to you?

As I stated before:

Quote from: Akrasia... 2.  3e is not my favourite fantasy role-playing game for certain specific reasons (including the reliance on minis in its combat system, which is IME more accute than in it is other versions of the game; YMMV on the role of minis, whatever)...

The specific reasons that I don't like 3e include its reliance on minis and the amount of prep work it seems to require for DMs (which is why I don't DM it anymore, even though I still play it).

Now I don't hate D&D 3e because of these aspects.  It's not my  favourite game, but still play it (unlike, say, Exalted, which I do dislike).

Thanks for throwing in the gratuitious personal attack.

Anyhow, it's clear to me that since any criticism or expression of dislike concerning any aspect of 3e D&D constitutes 'slagging' according to you, you clearly mean something different when you use that term than the standard English definition.

Either that, or it seems you're being hyper-sensitive to interpret any criticism of 3e as constituting 'hatred' of it.  That's ridiculous.

Anyhow, since it has become clear to me that you have difficulty understanding how someone can prefer X over Y without 'hating' Y, there's no point in trying to explain this possibility to you for the nth time.  All I ask is that you either refrain from further personal attacks on me, or simply ignore my posts in the future.

I doubt I'll buy it. I'm slimming down on games to only the ones I actually play, and D&D isn't one of them. Not to mention I use C&C when I want a D&Desque game.
Running: HarnMaster, Barbaric 2E!, and EABA.

Pseudoephedrine

I might, but I might also use it as an excuse to get my group to play some d20 variants like Iron Heroes instead. It depends on how different the new system will be, and how difficult it would be to convince the d20 fanatics in our group to switch over to the unfamiliar system.
Running
The Pernicious Light, or The Wreckers of Sword Island;
A Goblin\'s Progress, or Of Cannons and Canons;
An Oration on the Dignity of Tash, or On the Elves and Their Lies
All for S&W Complete
Playing: Dark Heresy, WFRP 2e

Quote from: C.W.RichesonWhenever D&D 4 is released, whoever it is released by, I will buy it.  I wont even inquire into the mechanics or production values or anything, I'll just pick it up.

Downloading is a beauty, but not core because it's the base. I have core 3.5e DM, MM, and PHB (plus extended and complete psionics.... i can kill you with my brain). Core is core, you keep up or you end up like these non-gamer RPGs and systems, and part of a home brews still playing 1e because you're the last reminds of a group that's almost dead. No offense to those out there. So yes I'll buy the books, hard copy and all.
