This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The ones that pop into my mind immediately are classic D&D, T&T, and Savage Worlds. Stormbringer 1e is probably the fastest BRP-derived game out there.

What do you think? I want fast character generation, fast combat resolution, fast fast fast. No BS, no extra session spent generating characters before you play, no hour long combats except maybe when there are dozens of figures on the battlemat. FAST, I say!

In addition to probably still being one of the ten best designed RPGs of all time, Fantasy Trip was fast too.

TFT was my answer.

Gunslinger

Marvel Superheroes Basic (FASERIP)

Unisystem looks like it'll play fast, but all I've done with it so far is make some characters and some zombies.

Silcore plays fast too.

Warhammer FRP (1st Edition, I don't have experience with the 2nd Edition) was always my "go to" fast Fantasy game.  Character generation is fast enough that I could always let players create characters before playing, even when doing a pick-up game.

Dragons of the Underearth, a condensed version of the TFT rules in 32 little pages, is probably even faster, then, and you can still find copies for sale pretty cheap.

Seconding D6, especially the Star Wars versions. Pick a template, add skill dice, and go. Classic Traveller was also pretty quick. I got to the point where I could roll up a character in about 5 minutes... and maybe have him die during char gen:rolleyes: ... and roll another in 5 more minutes.

Ooh... Teenagers From Outer Space! Good call!

TWERPS. It only had one stat and a few skills. Doesn't get any faster than that.
Abyssal Maw:

I mean jesus. It's a DUNGEON. You're supposed to walk in there like you own the place, busting down doors and pushing over sarcophagi lids and stuff. If anyone dares step up, you set off fireballs.

From Pundit's review of In Harm's Way: A Napoleonic Naval RPG:

"I don't know of many games where you could make not one but a TROUPE of characters (basically your PC and 2 npc "retainers") and the whole process could take under 15 minutes, and you still get the feel that the PC is a fully fleshed-out character with a very individual personality that is reflected in the stats."

Assuming traditional means playstyle and not age, ORE's your baby. You won't believe what a fast dice pool can do.
Heroism is no more than a chapter in a tale of submission.

In your eyes does Risus count to you as being in the painful nebulous "traditional" category? (and it'd be hard to include IHW and not include a metric buttload of other stuff) If so it does that all plus includes the added bonus of fast to read.
