This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Far West RPG? (No not THAT one!)

While hunting around for interesting Western themed RPGs a friend down south pointed me at an RPG from Madrid called... Far West (Juego de Rol). Published in 1993 by a publisher called M+D Editores. Who apparently also did a translation of Cyberpunk 2020 and some other games.

From what little I can glean from it so far looks like it uses three stats with a 3d6 roll for each. (Please excuse any translation errors on my part.)  FUErza(Force) DEStreza(Skill) and CONstitucion(Constitution) CON also determined your Puntos de Vitas(Life Points) While DEX x5 was your Velocidad(Speed) and FUE effected your melee Dano(Damage)

Theres several professions and each comes with a set of skills with varying levels of proficiency in them. Example:
Explorador(Explorer):
Cabalgar(Ride) 50%
Cartografia(Cartography) 25%
Conocimiento del terreno(Knowledge of the Terrain) 50%
Descubrir(Discover) 30%
Orientacion(Orientation) 50%
Rastrear(Track Back) 30%

Armas cortas(Handguns) 15%
Rifle(Rifle) 50%
Cuchillo(Knife) 15%

Whereas a Pistolero(Gunman) has Hanguns at 50 and Rifle at 25.

Anyone else heard of this RPG or had any experience with it?

I'm familiar with several Spanish RPGs, but never heard of that one.

I saw it at Gen Con back in the 90s at a vendor stall selling all Spanish games. They had Far West, something called I think Aquelarre, and some sort of Gurps-esque system called Universo. (Ive later been informed that Universo uses some variant of BRP?) Aquelarre I've heard of many times since. But still know nothing about.

I didnt remember Far West at all till a friend showed me her copy when we were discussing western themed RPGs. I puzzled out translating the first few pages of chargen on my own. Book looks pretty well thought out with sections on the regions and statting out animals. Also rare to see in a western themed RPG was a section detailing native american tribes by region and nation.
Oh and they statted out Zane Grey and Lincoln.

Looks like one of the original designers is aiming for a new edition via Wild Bunch Publishing. Far West La Leyenda. Info though is pretty spartan. Looks like alot of new rules or a total re-write is planned.

The game I most regret not buying when I had the chance is Far West. Several years ago, I saw a copy at the Madrid Book Fair, but my "I buy too much roleplaying stuff" guilt stopped me from getting a copy, in spite of my wife's encouragement. Now it has become a hard to find manual, and I get sad when I think that I had a copy in my hands. :(

OK, the reason for the thread necromancy. It took me by surprise, but Far West La Leyenda, the new edition of Far West has just been published.

I didn't get a copy yet, but God am I tempted!

It would be fantastic if they beat the other Far West to the punch and trademarked the name in English in the U.S.

If you get it let us know what its like.

Looks interesting. I wonder if it's set in some pseudo-historical fantasy-west (the reference in the character sheet to "magia india" makes me suspicious).

Anyways, yes, I totally second that they publish it in English, and then take advantage of all the pre-existing hype for an RPG called Far West. Hah!
