This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

My opinion on roleplaying with kids has evolved since I got a 10-year-old player in our DCC group, but he's remarkably mature (more mature than some of the adults in that group).  And even then, I don't think I'd be super-interested in playing a game DMed by a preteen.

Unless you're a parent, I wouldn't particularly recommend it. :)

If you are primarily valuing your own experience as a player, then a young GM will likely not provide you what you are looking for a number of obvious reasons. Then again if that's what you value most then it is probably for the best that you aren't keen on being a player in games run by young GMs. That doesn't make it any less a wonderful experience for all involved for many other reasons.

No worries - I was a 10 year old DM. You'd have bored the hell out of me then, you old bastard. :P

I'm loving hearing about this. While in all seriousness, I agree I wouldn't likely seek to play in a pre-teen DM's game these days, I love hearing about it.

Quote from: Skywalker;792933I was pretty much the same.

I am running a young RPGer stream at a local con (http://kapcon.rpg.net.nz/?q=node/585) and one of the aims is to get the young RPGers to also run games for each other.
That rocks. I decided to do something similar for the upcoming DunDraCon 39 out here - I'm running some games in their Kid-friendly and Teen-friendly tracks.

Kid-friendly

Teen-friendly

I'm looking to feature a few different games / themes. The Cairn rpg game is definitely in the community-minded, positive-messaging space (violence sets the PCs down on their Harmony ratings) for an example, but I want some more traditional games too.

Really thinking about offering a game or two of FAL now ... I'm sort of bouncing back and forth between it and BBF, actually.

Bill's Dungeon of the Fire Dragon. After killing the fire dragon, the heroes find themselves trapped in the dungeon. Seeking to escape, Lord Boris of Secomber (my PC), Shaedra of Elturgard & co battle the hounds of hell!

Cairn does look pretty good. It's on my soon to purchase list for my daughters though it looks to be for a slightly older RPGer :)

Cool - it's written from an adult perspective. I didn't feel talked down to at all by the text. From a game play perspective, I love the bits built in re: working to avoid violent solutions, impact / consequences for once actions, options to be selfish or share bonuses, and finding lessons learned at the end of a game ... great stuff.
