Quote from: Warboss Squee;837269It's funny, or pathetic depending on how you look at it, that more official word has been passed on Scion and that actually rebuilt system than has been said for Exalted.  One's still in the alpha phase, and the other is supposedly in layout.

Oh I know.  I am just hoping scion would avoid the sjw bullshit, but beyond that I think that game is in good hands.  If it fails I can always stick with the broken first edition.  By the way how is scion 2.0 doing?

Don't bother I just check it out myself.  One hand they are doing the smart thing and applying a tier system for their brand new game system.  The bad news is momentum which is group base fate points.  Before I rant I get to the good points first.

It is good that they are going for a streamlined system that is quite easy to understand.  Nothing compared to the bogged down mess known as Exalted's storyteller system.  Being in a higher tier means your dice rolls get easier so you got more chances for successes.  Putting a focus on difficulty will make things simple and straight forward.

The bad is momentum.  There are two pools which is black (players) and red (director/why don't you just say game master?).  Point is the more you fail the more you build those points up.  Which to be honest is better than FATE because at least they are not forcing you to fail if you don't have fate points.  I mean you get the points if you fail and want to build them up.

So why the gripe?  Ever dealt with a shitty player who hugs up the good.  Guess what she/he is going to do with the party's black pool of awesome failure energy?  Yeah if you need to cast lightning bolt to banish some shadow demons back to the greater titan of darkness you would be fuck if that energy hug wasted it on a focus roll.

Also why are you limiting the game master again with the stupid red pool.  Come on now let the GM do his/her job and run the game her/his way.  Why be a dick to the people that are running your game and most likely bought more than just the core book?

See, this wouldn't be an issue with my group. I don't play with fuckers.

Or maybe divide it up into pools for each player, but you still see the problem despite solving it in your table.

Oh, of course. I've played with enough people, not even asshole players just people to see why that wouldn't work.

Quote from: Ghosthead;19118767hatewheel has talked before about how there's a fanbase beyond the forums, who might yet be dimly aware of and turned off by the kind of discussion and elaboration that happens there.

Honestly, this seems really quite likely to me, and part of his consideration.

There are two problems with the above as I see it. One, its the oldest dodge on the internet: "The Silent Majority that doesn't post agrees with me."

And secondly, if all these fans don't participate in forums and online discussions how are previews that released to forums and online going to upset them?

Frankly I don't buy it for a minute that there are that many offline Exalted fans, especially considering there are people that are on forums (including Rpg.net) that to this day have no idea what Exalted is and its primarily been marketed and discussed online. At least I haven't seen any other ad campaigns for it.

In my local area there was a huge amount of players (and by huge I mean about 50 or so) that loved Exalted.  They were vocal and typical of most WW fans, but they also didn't go to forums simply because a lot of them had convinced the others that forums are full of hateful people bent on ruining other people's fun.

So for at least the first two editions, there was (anecdotally) a rather sizable, for RPG standards, fanbase here.

However, when WW officially 'died', they moved on, and I'm pretty sure they don't know about a third edition.  And I'm not about to tell them about it, either.

That's definitely different from my experience. Almost all the people I know that even know Exalted exists are from forums or learned about it online. And I still run into allot of people that are active online who's reaction to the name "Exalted" is "What's that?"

So I still can't buy that the radio silence about the game was somehow necessary because it was upset the vast offline fanbase.. who wouldn't see it anyway.

Can't blame you and I can't blame them.  Mainly because your not telling them about this mess of a game that is being made by people who should never call themselves developers.  I can't blame the offline customers because White Wolf abandon the brick and mortar stores which means they abandon their offline customers.  Shamefully Onyx Path had not even made the attempt to fix that error, but I don't even know if they can do that now to be completely fair with that company.

The mind, it boggles. Why wouldn't you tell them?

I mean, you can warn them about anything you think is wrong with the new edition, but why not leave the choice to them?

Quote from: Warboss Squee;837256I want to be a fan of Exalted, and I was for a long while, but at this point I have a hard time separating my dislike of the system and setting from my dislike of the people writing it.

And frankly sometimes the people playing it for me. Its probably perception and frustration but the Exalted community seems to have more than its fair share of assholes. The majority of people on my Ignore List stem from the Exalted threads.

...That's it?

I have to say, after the way Holden was promising that Ex3 was such an amazingly gorgeous work of art, I expected a lot more. The art itself looks very nice, but the pages are extremely bland.

But, but...there are words on those pages! It might spoil the awesome!

Honestly though, if you didn't tell me it was Ex3, I would have thought I was looking at a DnD product.

The 'View/Download Full Resolution' button doesn't.
Otherwise I might enjoy the micro-art pieces a bit more. Or (*gasp*) read 7 pages of text).
