Well, if you think in terms of buying a surface in lieu of a laptop AND an iPad, then the price makes more sense.

The professional angle is definitely true; I've never had a computing device as immediately useful as my surface pro.

But if you're wanting "just" a tablet, you're better off getting the standard surface (if Windows 8 is your thing) or some other device, and buying a laptop or other machine for your "heavy" computer use.

I SO want like the lower end win 8 tablets, but the app support just isn't there yet.

They are rather groovy. I nearly bought one yesterday. The thing is, I have no use for it. I have my Macbook Air, My old white Macbook running Linux, my smartphone and my Asus TF101. Granted I want to replace the smartphone because the battery charge is dodgy (connector issue) and all I use it for is as a handheld internet device. But 7 inches is just too much for me. I can't keep it in my pocket and walking around with something like that in my hand is difficult.

That didn't come out right, did it?
I play these games to be entertained... I don't want to see games about rape, sodomy and drug addiction... I can get all that at home.

Let's be clear about this, tablets, regardless of brand, are fucking great. This is the future computing as it was once imagined, portable and brilliant. They're literally like holding a window onto the internet.

Mmm, yeah. I'm a PC gamer, I've got a decent desktop machine, so I'm looking at it as an iPad alternative.

I've got a friend with some Asus Surface thing, and it's all right, but without the app support I'm just not sure why you'd bother with it (Caveat : he is basically a professional Microsoft fanboy, so there's that).

I am using a Nook HD+ and Foxit Reader free version. I have no complaints with the performance. The only thing I could wish for is a separate keyboard.
