This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Well actually I do hate illusions AND I like Magic missile. :p

So far you're pretty much on track on how I think.

Course I generally don't go for evocation specialization. I prefer necromancy.

Quote from: Benoist;473501OK. That sounds better than the Complete Fuckwitery of Wizards.

Yeah see: that's EXACTLY the kind of conversation that I just do not give a shit about, because I have an actual brain and I realize game balance is something that happens at the game table, not between the pages of a book. If I play some d20 again, that's honestly that culture of sodomizing  shit flies that I will totally steer clear from. Total theoretical bullshit from OCD-types to me.

Well, it helps if what's in the book matches how you play. A lot of people think rogues are weak because they never have solo missions or traps. I think sorcerers and wizards are too powerful because I don't run enough fights to run them out of spells, nor do I punish them with black swan events for novaing. Sure, you can balance at the table, but for me it's way, way more fun to balance the book for my table.

Nightfall

Crane,

I find that some wizards/sorcerers CAN run out of spells IF you play the monster JUST right.

Like having a high SR alongside having other monsters with SR...makes it that much more difficult to toss out chain lighting.

People don't want to play shitty classes, except maybe as a lark once in a while. Nor do I blame then, since in-the-game-world characters are often trying to accumulate personal power as well. Who would choose to suck IRL if they had the choice of being awesome? Having non-ass classes gives people more real options to choose from. Balance provides those options.

Offline IRL unrelated to rpg games, there are some people who would deliberately take an "inferior choice" instead of taking the "awesome choice".

This could happen if the "awesome choice" involves a lot more work, responsibilities, duties, commitment, etc ... in comparison to an "inferior choice".

Why would those people be adventuring in the first place? Especially in the medieval era, when it's a total pain in the ass?

Are you speaking about in the present day or centuries ago?

(That is if I misunderstood your original point).
