This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Alive yet or vaporware?

I'm reading all the books back to back (I'm a third of the way through White Night now). I was interested in the game before I started the books, but now I am especially so.

And after seeing what looks like the cover, I'm definitely looking forward to it...

...if'n it ain't dead already.

Not to distract from the thread (I'm interested in the answer myself) but what the hell happened to the TV series?  I liked the frickin TV show and it disappeared.  Is it dead for good or just on hiatus?
The books are probably better anyway based on Seanchai's reaction, but at least the series was something to watch on the crap fest that passes for TV these days.

It died. Poor ratings.

Books one and two are pretty much on the same level as the show, in my opinion, which is, basically, just average. They start getting much better from book three on.

The SciFi series was cancelled after the first season.  It was a sad day for my wife and I when we found out.

The RPG is very much alive, last I heard, they were in playtest.

Thanks for the info.  I'll try the books.  Sounds like it would be great fodder for an RPG but maybe the failure of the TV series made them reconsider.  I hope not, I thought the series had a great premise but just suffered from mediocre plots.

It died. The report (rumorish) I read that despite relatively good ( for Sci Fi channel) ratings, it was picking up the "wrong" watchers--women aged 20-35 or so rather than SF's favorite men aged 20-35, Or something like that, so they canceled it.  The show was better than a lot of similarly themed supernatural dribble on TV (Sadly the atrocious adaption of Tanya Huff's blood Ties, the show Moonlight, and say Charmed), but wasn't as good as Supernatural. (Still I liked the actors, and it was a neat show.)

I've read all the books, and while passable entertainment, they're just fun pulp stuff not serious literary works (mind you, there is definatly a place for that in my library, I read a lot of stuff that I don't expect brilliance from, just fun.)

I've been reading Chad Underkoffler's blog who is doing some of the writing on the RPG. (or all of it maybe, not sure) It is a pretty big undertaking.

We cross-posted on that one.  Great news. Thanks.

The books are definitely better in that regard.

I'm with you on that one.  Supernatural is good but that is about all there is these days.  At the risk of getting flamed, I thought Sci-Fi Channel was deliberately heading for a new demographic anyway.  Most of the people I know who watch the new Battlestar Galactica are women and it seemed to me that they swapped some of the action of the old series for more drama and character-relationship stuff. They should have kept Dresden but that's life in cable T.V. I guess.

I saw a boxed DVD set of Dresden Files show at Best Buy (I was more interested in Black Books, but was too poor *LOL*)

Currently doing nothing.

The books are a fun read. The TV series was good entertainment. As for the RPG . . . I'm hopeful. Still, I'm always leery when game designers mess around with existing settings and adapt them for game play.
Timeless Games/Better Mousetrap Games - The Creep Chronicle, The Fifth Wheel - the book of West Marque, Shebang. Just released: The Boomtown Planet - Saturday Edition. Also available in hard copy.

That's the last thing I heard from him, too.  Really looking forward to it, though--hope it delivers!

The authors of the RPG are friends with Jim Butcher himself.  I'm sure they will remain faithful to the setting.

The TV series was Ok.

OTOH it was just about the only "geeky sci-fi" (as my wife calls it) that my wife actually liked. It was sort of cool being able to sit and watch something "geeky" with my non-geek wife and have her actually enjoy it. :D
