Title: Dragon Warriors update.
Post by: Bulya on February 05, 2010, 04:22:13 AM
Ok, so the three revisited and expanded/updated campaign books( Sleeping Gods, The Elven Crystals, The Prince of Darkness) are all out now.

Friends or Foes has just been released, In From the Cold is on its way, a Players Guide is in development and the second issue of Ordo Draconis is almost out.

I'm having a lot of fun running my current campaigns both on and offline.

So have they officially revised all the original books now? Six, I believe.

I mean it must have taken me two to three minutes to put those links together, and demand the credit I am due.  I dunno, first Outlaw Press, now Bulya... ;)

I will therefore make payment to you in the form of numerous pints of your favourite ale.........;)

Do you have links to some DW reviews?   I can't figure out why I should consider DW if I already play OD&D, T&T and Warhammer.

What does the new DW give me in fantasy gaming that I don't already have?

A different set of game mechanics that you may or may not find fun ( funner ) to play.

In From the Cold is a collection of articles and adventures from the glory-days of White Dwarf, written by Dave Morris (many of them under pseudonyms) and an elite group of his mates. Some were originally written for Dragon Warriors, some were written for other RPGs but are being converted across. The estimable Ian Sturrock is on editing duties again.

The one article that people are getting excited about is Dave's classic Demonologists piece--and the demons to go with it.

That's right, though none of our books corresponds exactly to the original Corgi release. Prince of Darkness, for example, has an entire new section on the fief of Glissom, with maps and plans of its capital city, its society and trade, and lots more.

So yeah, there are now six Dragon Warriors books available again, but all the rules stuff is in the main hardback, all the adventure material has been expanded and re-edited by Adrian Bott or Ian Sturrock, and the sixth book--Friends or Foes--is 100% new.

That does sound good.  Thank you for the info by the way.

Looking at the combat stats of the Dragon Warriors player characters:

Assassins:  Attack 13, Defense 5
Barbarians:  Attack 14, Defense 6
Elementalists:  Attack 11, Defense 5
Knights:  Attack 13, Defense 7
Mystics:  Attack 12, Defense 6
Sorcerers:  Attack 11, Defense 5
Warlocks:  Attack 12, Defense 6

one rolls a d20 less than or equal to player's Attack stat with the target monster's defense stat subtracted from it, for a hit.  (ie.  Player_attack - Monster_defense).

Converting to d20 language of 3E/3.5E D&D, the base attack bonus BAB is Attack - 11 and the AC is 10 + Defense which makes the Dragon Warriors players' combat stats as:

Assassins:  BAB = +2, AC = 15
Barbarians:  BAB = +3, AC = 16
Elementalists:  BAB = 0, AC = 15
Knights:  BAB = +2, AC = 17
Mystics:  BAB = +1, AC = 16
Sorcerers:  BAB = 0, AC = 15
Warlocks:  BAB = +1, AC = 16

Similar story with the magic combat stats of Dragons Warriors player characters:

Assassins:  Magic Defense 3
Barbarians:  Magic Defense 3
Elementalists:  Magic Attack 15, Magic Defense 5
Knights:  Magic Defense 3
Mystics:  Magic Attack 14, Magic Defense 4
Sorcerers:  Magic Attack 15, Magic Defense 5
Warlocks:  Magic Attack 13, Magic Defense 4

with their equivalent in d20 language of MBAB = magical base attack bonus, MAC = magical AC:

Assassins:  MAC 13
Barbarians:  MAC 13
Elementalists:  MBAB = +4, MAC 15
Knights:  MAC 13
Mystics:  MBAB = +3, MAC 14
Sorcerers:  MBAB = +4, MAC 15
Warlocks:  MBAB = +2, MAC 14
