SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Don't feel bad about being a fatbeard...

Quote from: Dominus NoxHmmm, so this negative term only applies to white guys? Sounds like a case of clear and blatant racism to me.

If you really think it's only white guys with nunchuck, bowhunting, and computer hacking skills -- watch this video. :)

Quote from: TonyLBY'know, outside of RPG circles I would have read "traditional RPG" less as being about different modes of publishing and more as a phrase meant to distinguish "Activities that involve dice and cheetos" from "activities that involve naughty maid outfits and licorice underwear."

Although ... y'know ... a case could be made for the latter having more right to call itself "traditional," so maybe I'm just completely wrong.

I thought "traditional" was used outside of RPG circles to denote Pen and Paper as opposed to CRPGs or MMORPGs.  (As well as sexual or psychological rp, I suppose...)

"White Japanese", i.e. a wannabe poser. Encyclopedia Dramatica has a pretty funny writeup on it but it's definately NSFW.

Spike

Alas, for I am doomed to fail as a game designer, for I am neither fat (actually, I'm rather svelt for a Pika, just so you know...) nor can I grow a beard.

Hmm... although I wonder, if I glue on a fu-manchu and goatee... only for conventions mind you... if I would pass fatbeard muster?
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

Raven c.s. McCracken, author of World of Synnibarr, is not a fatbeard:

I've seen a more recent picture of him.  He's got the more modern clean-shaven, short-haired rocker look.  And he's still not fat.

I dunno.  An RPGnetter caught up with him at GenCon a few years back and said to McCracken "It's like you built this rpg specifically for powergaming munchkins."  To which he was said to reply "Yes!  Someone finally gets it!"

That was the general concensus when I reviewed the damned thing way back when.  It's why I'm running it on April Fool's Day this coming year, and if I can get a mix CD of cheesy elfcore metal to run as a soundtrack then I'll do it- all in tribute to this crazy motherfucker.

I still take pride in getting hate mail from him.
