This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

DM's--Do you mostly stand or sit while DM'ing?

I used to always sit as a kid, now I find myself standing most of the time.  Just curious what everyone else does.

JRients:   "Joe the Lawyer is a known shit-stirrer. He stirred the shit. He got banned. Asking what he did to stir the shit introduces unnecessary complication to the scenario, therefore he was banned for stirring the shit."

Erik Mona: "Woah. Surely you\'re not _that_ Joe!"

Benoist

I do a lot of both, but I think I'm sitting more.
Very cool idea for a thread.

Scaredy Squirrel

I always sit. But I have a friend who I couldn't get to settle down when he was GMing. He always sprung up whenever there was just a little bit of action. With big gestures and all. Great GM. A pity he doesn't game anymore.

The Shaman

Back and forth. I don't like sitting in one place for long periods of time, but I also don't like looming over the table too much.
On weird fantasy: "The Otus/Elmore rule: When adding something new to the campaign, try and imagine how Erol Otus would depict it. If you can, that\'s far enough...it\'s a good idea. If you can picture a Larry Elmore version...it\'s far too mundane and boring, excise immediately." - Kellri, K&K Alehouse

I have a campaign wiki! Check it out!

I sit, but I'd probably stand a bit more in a larger space where it wouldn't make it seem obtrusive. Standing definitely helps if one is using minis and/or a map to keep track of where everyone and everything is at during the action.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

Silverlion

I sit, preferably in a solid enough chair with a good back, or against a wall.

When I used to DM at cons, stand.  Nearly all the time.  Sometimes moving around the table to point various things out (heavy minis use at cons).

At home?  Good lord, sitting down.

Enlightened

I stand.

If I sit down, I find myself subconsciously standing back up again in 30 seconds.  I'm a school teacher and I'm used to standing up and walking around as I talk.

I'm a much more subdued DM if I have to DM sitting down I find.  But that's just me.

Lawbag

I stand 70% of the time and sit the remaining.
I've realised I prefer DMing as it means I speak more than as a player, and hence cant have my mouth full of sweets when I do.

I prefer standing because I can move around the table to talk to the other players directly as well as being more animated about situations and actions.

I try to stand as much as possible as I seem to think better on my feet that way. Trouble is once I get comfortable sitting I end up staying put!
