This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The Z Team

The RPG.net thread about which gun is best against zombies + The Walking Dead season finale = got me thinking about who I would round up when the big Z drops.

My pal Jonathan's got a farm that's got good defensive lines and arcs. Also, he knows how to take care of horses. That's going to be important in the long term.

I know a doctor called Mike. He gets a seat because I'm going to need someone to remove my appendix when it all goes wrong.

Ray Mears would be a v.useful team member because he's just generally awesome.

Beyond that core, I'd want another doctor/medic for backup (and, let's face it, a couple more just to be safe), a mechanic to fix the vehicles and an electrician (ideally one who can take a petrol - aka gas, for you Yanks - generator apart and put it back together blindfolded).

Beyond those essentials, I'm thinking that I need a military armourer who can recondition weapons, a veterinarian to take care of the horses and cattle, a radio expert who understands things like crystals and why the length of an aerial is important, and someone who knows how to handle a boat.

I want all these guys to be male (except for the third doctor/medic), married and have at least one kid (and for their family to be with us, clearly).

What have I missed?

Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

I'll have you know that I'll be keeping my post-Apocalypse harem under very tight control! ;-)

Actually, a butcher would be far higher up my list than a hunter/tracker.

Plumbing would seem to be a luxury, rather than a necessity in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse.

Dentist - Yup, good one.

You? What useful skills would you bring to the table? :-)

Surely you would need a whole bunch of roleplayers who have been through the Zombipocalyse so often that they can forgage a Supermarket, lay down a defensive perimeter and establish a new utopian society in their sleep :)

I am a little worried about your gender role restrictions. Can't see the point of them to be honest.

I also suspect that arbitration is a key factor. Someone that can do the 'Hurley' job in Lost terms and stop the alpha males shooting each other over who gets to drive the 4x4.
Another skill people overlook is basical organisation. Some people are just great at logisitics and some poeple can just get shit sorted out.

Serious Paul

At least ten times more than all the craptacular threads about what the jack asses who write the games are doing in their spare time, and all the wankery that comes with it.

But maybe you're right-we should discourage posters from actually discussing games, or settings and hone in on the real meat-the Industry! All hail the swine that write! And sell. And talk about sales. And talk about how they'd run your game.

Dodger

Well, I did start off thinking vaguely about a Walking Dead RPG but I have to admit that with mention of strippers it's all degenerated into me imagining myself as a post-Zombie Apocalypse version of Dennis Hopper's character from Waterworld, with my own personal harem of Amazonesque honeys.

I'm sorry, Numsy. I should be punished! Please, purge me. I should be flogged. I shouldn't walk among good people. I'm a swine, a wretch. I don't deserve to live like others...
