This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Different games using Over The Edge / Warp
« on: July 01, 2012, 02:00:04 PM »
So with the OTE ruleset being opened up as Warp, I'm wondering what all kinds of games might work well with the ruleset.

I'm not sure how well it would work, but one thought I had would be to try a Dresden Files game as I've found the Fate version a bit confusing to read as far as grasping the ruleset. Am I better off just trying to read over the books a few more times or could OTE work out nicely for Dresden?

Thoughts from the rest of you as to what you might use the ruleset for?

Anyone looking to submit OTE adventures for the Open Call?

I think the OtE rules would be an excellent match for Dresden Files - the "classic" Over The Edge is more than a little Dresden-like to begin with. Albeit you might need some better rules for magic - I can't remeber how good/thorough they were?

If I remember correctly one of the old Over The Edge-sites (Lareau-something?) had links to places where the rules where used for both a post-apocalyptic game and Star Wars.

It's not more than a week ago I talked with my group, and the most die-hard 3.5 rules expert stated, that he considered the OtE rules the best simple/easy rules around, based on our past Over the Edge campaign.

And yay for Atlas Games giving Over the Edge some attention once again!

Cocain is more popular than rp so there is bound to be some crossover.

The waybackmachine had a version of the page, but I didn't see much for alt-settings there unless I misunderstood the descriptions on the links.

I found a site with setting/rules for an OTE version of the old cartoon Thundarr the Barbarian which has some expanded magic rules compared to the main OTE book, and I think they could be a nifty starting point at least for trying a Dresden game.

I ran a couple of different short games (damned if I remember which) here a few years back using the OtE rules but not the setting.

From what I hear, some of the people who played in those have since done the same with yet more settings.  I think OtE is a really excellent rules-lite system.

Over the Edge is the game that started many indie trends (specially FATE and TSOY), and in my opinion is still the best one.
