This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So, why are you waging it? Right now?

Why are you so afraid of AM, me and others?

And why are you so desperate in getting approval from us?

I think it's hilarious that you can't deal with the fact that Mark came out blind, met us -- me, Jared, Fred Hicks, Rob D, TonyLB, Mike Miller, etc. -- and had a good time playing and talking about games with us. That's utterly incomprehensible, eh?
Ahhh...no this makes sense.  Tony was there and he's here.  Perhaps that's the connection.  Shame on you Tony.  Are you the Ogre or the fey?

Quote from: lukeNo one cares about the war. There is no war. If you came out to a con, you'd receive the same warm and welcome reception. In fact, I invite you out. If any of you are going to be at Gencon, stop by my booth and say Hi or drop by one of our panels and listen in.

It's not what you think.

Well, we're sure they pimped you out to be at the con, so....

And if you don't care about the war, why are you here? Why come in to trade barbs with people? I mean, if you want to talk games, step on up. But to taunt Pundit and claim there's no war - why not just ignore it?  I'm sure you knew Tony was here and could help defend your new acolyte, right?

I still want to know what all the minis were doing there....

Oh, dude!  You think that if there were a photo of me in here I wouldn't have already crowed about it?  C'mon ... you know me better than that.  The picture could be of me upside down in only my briefs, while people laughed and pointed their fingers, and I'd still be all "Looky, looky!  That's me in that picture!  That's ME!"

No ... there was no photo-love for yours truly :(

I can ID the "Weapons Officer" picture though ... that's Michael Miller, of Incarnadine Press.  He looks pretty totalled ... wasn't that a saturday evening game?  Yeah.  People were starting to fade by then.

EDIT:
Quote from: James J SkachAnd if you don't care about the war, why are you here?
If I had to guess, I'd venture "Google Alerts."  Most publishers keep a few running, precisely so that they won't miss any word of mouth developing in unexpected places.

I don't care about the war, and I'm here. I just don't like being told that certain playstyles are not welcomed here...wait I wonder why you didn't mention this - Sett's little tirade about what is welcomed and what is not - in any of your posts in this thread ? Then I see "new acolyte" and I get where you're coming from.

I certainly wouldn't call Luke a vanity publisher, he's obviously worked very hard to promote BW, as have a handful of other guys from the Forge. -- The RPG Pundit

David - c'mon man.  I've called Sett an ass in plenty of threads for his need to trumpet playstyles while denigrating others.  I might have been among the first calling him Swine!  I was trying to be positive and point out that even Sett was backing off and giving time. Is that so horrible?

"acolyte" was a snide remark for Monsieur Crane, not Mark (nor you). Him, I never cared much for positive with him.

Quote from: VBWyrdeReally good summary!  One minor correction though:

I don't recall saying that exactly.  What I have said is that I am new to the whole Indie (meaning independently published RPGs) thing and have just begun reading 'Dogs in the Vineyard'

Apologies - the misreading was mine.

I freely confess i was a little scared of the jaunty cap and red/pink spectacles you were wearing in that picture!  (assuming that was you with the BW t-shirt on that is) If it wasn't you, all is forgiven. :D

Luke,
you never ever have contributed to this site, except for adding swine-war drama. You never come to discuss games.
You always come to defend the latest swinery. Or to whine about how you were misunderstood. That makes you such a jackasstic hypocrit under the disguise of nice little fella if there ever was one. Despicable.

Please go away. You are getting on my nerves.
I cannot see any good intentions of you coming here.

@New Guy: See, these guys you met, they are viral marketers. And the subverted nearly every online endevour. THIS is the place to get away from them. IF you want to be part of this site, then drop this thread.

Go, and talk about games. You can even talk about your navel-gazing wanker games. But say so in the thread title. We won´t come looking.

DON´T make general statements about anything related to the war, lest you be sucked up by it. You must understand: this luke guy you met. He´s not only a nice fellow, he´s also a moron online. He whines about how he is not given special status, how he was treated "Like any other GM". And he does other very embarrassing things, too.
Your little Ron Edwards, well, he has issues. Issues with intellectually accebtable wording and concepts.

Luke never comes here to be part of the chatter. He organizes with his buddies on story games to invade places. Like this one, they back each other up. Because they sell games.
They want your money, and therefore they need screen time. This is how they get their screen time. Please stop being a tool for them.

Ok I get the picture.  Not a problem.  I'm officially signing off this thread because I think this is good advice, actually.  I'll lurk around a bit, and post game thoughts as I see fit going forward.  And, yes, I'll probably bug you guys a bit about my navel-gazer game stuff, too, later on.

Thanks guys for a really interesting thread.  Peace Out.

Why does that sound like a verbatim copy of sect invitation? Because many of the "Forge-evangelists" behave like a sect. I don't know you, so I am not going to make any conclusions, but I know my own local Forgies here. Sect till the core. That's why am alerted and if the VBWyrde is so innocent as he claims, I am sorry, that I was a bit harsh.

On the other hand I belive that there is a war. Not an open one, but RPG is a business as any other. Indie publishers are enterprisers however petty they might be. That mean there is a competition and competition is just a different name for commerce war. That war might be fighted on different levels, one of them is a viral marketing and soft brainwashing. So stop pretending there is no war. Either you really don't want to sell or you do, than you are waging a war against any customer brain around to convince him, he needs something (he actually does not). There might be some other (connected or not) war agendas as well, but this one is self-evident.

You know, since you have just begun reading Dogs in the Vineyard, it might not be a bad idea to start some sort of a "first thoughts on DitV" thread on the main RPG forum, and post comments on it as you go along...

Sett,
I love you, too. Which is why I call bullshit when I see it. It's manly, patriarchal tough love from me.

Alnag,
Please pick your knuckles up off the floor and come out of the bunker into the light. You're only hurting yourself (and, of course, Baby Jesus).
