This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Out of curiosity, what would those three games be? :)

The pool, sorcerer, and dogs in the vineyard. All have been repackaged as different games several times, but they're all actually the same game.

The original poster is not at fault (but I question why the fuck he posted that stuff here.) He apparently showed up at a forgie "game design panel" at which he was apparently the only attendant? (did I get that right?) and got brainwashed by the rest of the cult. So I see it like a guy fresh from a Jim Jones seminar, telling us how great it is that he's about to go on a great trip to South America.

I posted here because I didn't know where else to put this, so please accept my apologies.

Now, then... would someone mind tell me what is going on?  If "They" are the Indie Game Designers Cult, then what faction are you guys, how many factions are there, and what the hell is this war about, anyway?

Thanks,
- Mark

Anyhow, welcome to the RPGsite!  Pundit would love to see the pictures, and I'm actually sure you'll have a great time here.

Ok well, I'll just put that all behind me then and try to enjoy myself.

Thanks again for the welcome.  Only do me one favor... what IS the orientation of theRPGSite?   What are you guys trying to do with this site, and whither ought a wandering RPG designer go around here?

Thanks again,
Mark

Destroy the gaming you've come to love.

To the design forum old chap.

Just kidding :D Welcome to the site, try to get those pics up and don't mind Sett & AM, there's only two of them type around here.

Edit: You are in the design forum...well then, to the main board.

Ambitious plan.  I'd like to know what is motivating this impulse, actually.

Well, you guys seem to have a purple passion against the Indie crowd, so it makes me think the photos are going to wind up on dart boards, but, since you ask...

Best wishes, and don't shoot.

Thanks.

VBWyrde, it may just be that you have a different concept of Indie (which is good). What games do you consider Indie?

A desire to punctuate the monotony. (And your sig is the equivalent of a group of Persians waving their genitals at eager Spartans)

Well, given that I'm really new to the whole scene I am going to go with Indie RPG, actually, is any RPG that is not published by one of the mainstream publishing houses such as Wizards of the Coast, or White Wolf.

The Indie RPGs that I've heard the most about are 'Dogs in the Vineyard', 'Polaris', 'Universalis', and 'Shadows of Yesterday'.   I have yet to read through any of them yet, but have started with 'Dogs in the Vineyard'.

So far the main thrust of the Indie RPG crowd, as such, appears to be a push towards Player Empowerment, a concept I'm on the fence about until I learn more about the idea, its implementations, and the effect is produces.

I suspect that in the right hands it's not a bad concept.  In the wrong hands its dreadful.  Like most things.

Um, that may be.  But we don't think so.  The LRPGSW is not an Indie discussion group, btw.   There are a number of Indie inclined members, but there are traditionalists, if I may call them that, as well.   We get along and don't bicker or try to stab eachother in the eye.  We instead try to understand the various viewpoints so that we can decide for ourselves how we wish to GM.  I tend towards the traditionalist mode of RPG play, myself, as that is where I came from...  However, I'm curious and interested in what the Indie movement is about and where the Indie Game Design community is heading.   I may or may not agree with aspects of it.  That has yet to be determined.  I go to read said Indie RPGs and find out.

My guess is that there were indeed a certain number of commie liberals bandying about in various guises.   But I don't let that get in the way of a good Role Play until people draw guns and start ordering people to line up against the wall.   As none of that happened I had a nice time.

VBW, although I appreciate your measured answers to my silly post, you gotta throw some venom out here..."fun is running out, and this is the only place producing sufficient quantities of the stuff...it's a fight to the death"...:D
