It would be ridiculous to have "Next" emblazoned on the covers. It will probably just say Dungeons and Dragons. Look at Apple with the iPad. The old one is iPad 2, the new one is just iPad.

In the rpg publishing business, the term "evergreen" seems to have become meaningless over the years.  At best, it seems to be synonymous with "for however long we feel like it".  :rolleyes:

Exactly. The 4th edition PHB says exactly twice that it is a 4th edition: once on the blurb in the back, in tiny script, and once in a minor sidebar in the opening pages. That's how prominent edition numbering figured. Contrast the 2nd edition logo - very prominent numbering - or the (not exactly endearing) numbering on the "v.3.5." core books on their cover pages.

5th edition - please do not succumb to the idiocy of calling it anything else - will try especially hard to hide the fact that it is just one more edition. It'll be like any other new edition of Warhammer 40k/FB.

I can certainly understand why WoTC would want to get rid of the "5th edition" tag, and just define it as D&D, or even something like "D&D Next" to imply that its not the latest update that replaces previous versions.  Of course, that's ultimately meaningless jargon.
