So...they're linked adventures designed to take a group of PCs from 1st to 20th level, right?

I think we used to call that a "campaign".

I'm not complaining...I think it's pretty cool, in fact.  I just think it's funny that they're calling it an "Adventure Path", but mostly I think it's interesting that game companies hadn't done this kind of thing in a while.  I mean, they used to, didn't they?  Publish linked adventures like that? Am I imagining things?

"Against The Giants"?

Huh.  Interesting.  Everything old is new again!  Hooray for Zoidberg!

mmmmmmmm... I'm a little recent on the GM scene (past three years) but I have not seen one of these, and have been SORELY in need of one.

Dr Rotwang!

Well, they do a lot of the hard work for you...I say acquire and enjoy.

Oh, and by the way -- how'd I forget THIS one?  I actually OWN this one!

Well, the idea is to have a campaign from 1-20 level. And those are quite rare. Add to that, that the format of the Dungeon Magazine is indeed more Adventure driven, than say a Cthulhu Campaign. Every adventure is written by a different author.
For me, a campaign is way more open than say, the Age of Worms Adventure Path.

A cool thing with the APs is the global community of gamers I can talk and relate to, because we all played the same adventure during the same timeframe.

I don't really care about what the call them, so long as there's MORE of them.

My FLGS should be lined with the things.  Less class inflation and more adventure material.
Bedroom Wall Press - Games that make you feel like a kid again.

Arcana Rising - An Urban Fantasy Roleplaying Game, powered by Hulks and Horrors.
Hulks and Horrors - A Sci-Fi Roleplaying game of Exploration and Dungeon Adventure
Heaven\'s Shadow - A Roleplaying Game of Faith and Assassination

Unfortunately adventures only sell to one in 5 people in the average gaming group, where as class type books can appeal to all 5. That's their logic anyway.

I think we used to call that a "campaign"...

One difference between an 'Adventure Path' (as currently presented by Paizo) and what I understand to be a 'campaign' is that the former has a rather definite sequence of adventures with a clear beginning and ending.  In contrast, while a campaign might have a 'clear beginning', where it goes from there can be -- at least IME -- pretty open-ended, and very dependent on the actions and decisions of the PCs.

More precisely, with an adventure path you have a sequence of 'set adventures' that (as I understand it) must be done 'in order', from level 1 to level 20.  In contrast, campaigns (well, at least the ones that I've run) tend to go in all kinds of unexpected directions, depending on players' actions.

While I can see running a module, or even a series of modules (like the G1-3 series you mentioned), I simply could not imagine running a full-blown adventure path.  It just seems too rigid.

No, no, no. I am a lover, not a fighter.  The Eighties and I, we have a tender, loving relationship.  Lots of fast cars and neon lights, for sure, but...no, no kicking.

Just love.
